A male spider sits on a geranium leaf. Six eyes are visible in the photo as he looks out for lady spiders. Light brown hairs cover the body with a very distinct yellow stripe down the prosoma (cephalothorax).

Small but feisty! This Zebra spider (Salticus scenicus) was getting annoyed at me trying to get a macro photo & jumped at me a couple of times, but always attached to a piece of silk so when I pulled back, it dangled a while before climbing back up to its perch. #arachnids #spiders

Was told it was Damon diadema but it (he?) only has 2 bands on the legs instead of 3 distinct ones. My thought it Damon medius. (Subadult)

My, what pretty flowers...aaaaAAHhHhRrhrhhggg....is what a bee's last thoughts would be visiting the wife's Cleveland Sage right now. That crab spider I nailed a couple of weeks ago, look it up, is larger now, and hunting the same sweet smelling flowers, just catching some rays...and anything else!

A 500-million-year-old clawed predator rewrites the origin of spiders and horseshoe crabs Harvard researchers reveal the earliest known Chelicerata in a new study published in Nature. The 500-million-year-old fossil, named Megachelicerax cousteaui, provides unequivocal evidence of chelicera, a feature never before seen in Cambrian arthropods. The discovery pushes back the origin of chelicerates by at least 20 million years and proves their distinctive body plan emerged during the Cambrian explosion.
