Had to edit one shot from the last few days, so here's a portrait of one of the male Philodromus margaritatus I found.

A different location today and, after two hours of checking tree trunks, I found this beauty. Nowhere near as numerous as my hunting spot for the last couple of days, but glad to find one before heading home. Lots of photo editing to do now🙂

Sticking with spiders for this one. Here's a female Walnut Orbweaver (Nuctenea umbratica) I found a couple of nights back. They have a slightly flattened abdomen allowing them to hide in cracks and crevices during the day.

A spider sits with her front legs over a web bundle spun over her eggs.
Hi @britishspiders.bsky.social a couple of questions:
* Can you ID this species please? She is directly above our bed keeping watch over her eggs.
* How long should it take before we have spiderlings?

A large spider in the process of wrapping a crane fly in silk for eating later in the day.
It’s that time of year again. The #Tipulidae ( #craneflies ) are out in large numbers and those big Araneus diadematus orb weaver #spiders are setting webs to catch them.
It’s a battlefield out in the garden!

Spiders’ webs catching the morning sunlight amongst the trees and undergrowth in a Scottish woodland. I think there at least 10 to be found in the photo.
On mornings like this you realise just how many spiders live in the woods 🕸️

A unique-looking small spider with cream/black striped legs, a grey abdomen and a cream/black pattern on its carapace (head and shoulders).
The spider clinging to the edge of a window ledge, with a white lumpy egg sac carried beneath her.
Text from Wikipedia: Scytodidae catch their prey by spitting a fluid that congeals on contact into a venomous and sticky mass. The fluid contains both venom and spider silk in liquid form, though it is produced in venom glands in the chelicerae. The venom-laced silk both immobilizes and envenoms prey such as silverfish. In high-speed footage the spiders can be observed swaying from side to side as they "spit", catching the prey in a criss-crossed "Z" pattern; it is criss-crossed because each of the chelicerae emits half of the pattern. The spider usually strikes from a distance of 10 to 20 millimetres (0.39 to 0.79 in) and the entire attack sequence only lasts 1/700th of a second. [5] After making the capture, the spider typically bites the prey with venomous effect, and wraps it in the normal spider fashion with silk from the spinnerets. [6]
Spitting spider! And she has an egg sac 😄 I'm always happy to find these fascinating and unique spiders in the house (and they can have all the silverfish they want!) #SaturdaySpider #SpiderSky #UKSpiders #Spider

A spider sits on my hand. Club-shaped pedipalps.
Hi can @britishspiders.bsky.social I’d this species for me. Very active and hard to photograph as it would not stop walking. Male? 30mm across the legs (approx), distinct pale yellow markings on the abdomen. Safely released!

Even the best predators sometimes miss their catch. This Tube Web Spider (Segestria florentina) isn't going hungry, though – a prime position under this lamp means plenty of nighttime visitors @britishspiders.bsky.social #spiders #ukspiders

Finally found my first ever wasp spiders yesterday - one female had two males in her web - not sure if that’s the norm? #ukspiders
Recorded two females and four male Thomisus onustus from a site in west sussex first time ive found them at this site, last records are from Dick Jones in 1996 so great the species is still there and doing well.

🕷️ Heard a buzzing whilst I was watering the onions and found a battle was going on between a black slip wasp and a false widow spider (I think!).
🐝 If you look closely you can see the spider using its silk to wrap and immobilise the wasp.

🏠🕷 Did you know? Autumn is spider season in the UK! These eight-legged visitors are not just harmless housemates but also natural pest controllers, consuming thousands of insects every year.

Not very good pic of a flesh fly in the grip of a flower crab spider. The spider has changed her colour to match the yellow of the dandelion they’re both on. Just like their namesake, crab spiders can run sideways using their super strong forelegs. Flower crab spiders also have the extra special ability of being able to change colour to blend in with the flower head they’re using as ‘bait’. Flesh flies are incredibly beneficial insects. Adults are excellent accidental pollinators because they’re not fussy when searching out nectar to feed on. They might not be able to carry as much pollen as bees, but they make up for their lack of hairs by their sheer number. Let’s hope it never becomes the case, but one day we might be relying on flies to pollinate our crops. Flesh flies are also detritivores, both adults & larvae are attracted to & consume rotting organic matter, helping return nutrients the soil. I’m writing this on my phone without my specs - apologies if it reads like nonsense

This pic was not intentional. I thought the fly looked a bit distressed as I passed, so I took a pic to find out why.
#Misumenavatia (I think). Super special - they can change colour at will.
