Diplostyla concolor, a lovely dwarf spider from Central Finland. I caught this mini-beast by sifting leaf litter.
I find the name “concolor” funny since it literally means “all one color”. However, the front part (prosoma) and rear part (opisthosoma) have different colors…

Visited the spot again today.
I wanted to get a better look at the assumed mate. Now I can confirm: It is a male of the species (Agalenatea redii).
He sits in the same spot, while she has moved to a different branch on the same plant.

A small, pale spider with an elongated abdomen grips an insect in her web
Female trashline orbweaver (species Allocyclosa bifurca) with insect prey in South Florida. These small spiders camouflage themselves and their egg sacs by hunkering down in a "trashline," a lengthy axis of gathered detritus that runs through the hub of the circular web. #spiders #spidersky #bugsky
A pale spider, dorsoventrally flattened against the substrate, is seen on the surface of a tree stump
My first flattie spider (family Selenopidae), species Selenops submaculosus. Pondhawk Natural Area in Boca Raton, Florida, last month. #spiders #spidersky #bugsky
A pale jumping spider, characterized by big stereoscopic eyes, poses on a red substrate.
Female gray wall jumping spider (Menemerus bivittatus), a teddy bear with eight legs. #spiders #spidersky #bugsky
A large pale-brown wolf spider rests on my hand
Giant female wolf spider (species Hogna lenta), one of several I found earlier this month while spidering at night in South Florida. I knew she was gonna be huge when my headlamp picked out a pop of eyeshine from about ten meters away. #spiders #spidersky #bugsky
Ventral view of an orb-weaving spider in her web against a blurry green background of vegetation. She has brightly contrasting colors of green, orange, yellow, black, and white.
As pretty as any butterfly, here's a female tropical orchard orbweaver (Leucauge argyrobapta), photographed last month in South Florida. #spiders #spidersky #bugsky
Speaking of Agalenatea redii:
I just encountered one today (and what looks like a potential mate right above?)
This has to be one of my favourite orb weavers too!

A black and white jumping spider with blueish green fangs sitting on a potato leaf slip propagating in a jar of water
You guyzzzz!
Look who's back!
Remember I brought her back from the dead after drowning outside a few months ago?
I found her back inside again somehow. She was in my bathtub drain, but now she's back in her rightful place which is my kitchen 😹

Wolf spider (Pardose wagleri) dorsal view. The spot on its abdomen appears dark grey to black compared to the otherwise lighter base colour of the spider.
Lateral view.
Frontal/dorsal view. Spot still visible.
Encountered a Pardosa wagleri today with a dark spot on its abdomen. It appears that the hair is missing there...

A tiny black spider which legs have a soft orange hue. Its whole body shimmers as it reflects the sunlight.
Same spider. Dorsal view (like previous image).
The original picture. Shows spider in 'distance'.
The world is a lot right now.
But, to my delight, I managed to encounter someone new the other day!
Excuse the low quality, the spider was very tiny and wouldn't hold still. The pictures are zoomed in too.
It appeared to be an ant mimicking spider (but unsure).

Japanese orchard spider Leucauge blanda.
These guys weave a horizontal web and hunt beneath it, hanging upside down. That’s why they are easily confused with sheet-web weavers of family Linyphiidae, although they actually represent family #tetragnathidae

photo of a molt from a black widow spider on my front door jamb. it's just the legs
Are there any spider-human relations experts on Bluesky who can tell me what it means that a spider (I believe a black widow) left its pants on my front door jamb last night?
Is this a gift? A threat? What does hanging one's pants mean in spider culture? Thank you!

A spider of genus Pardosa within the Lycosidae family (most likely P. wagleri). Dorsal view.
Lateral view of spider. Alert by my prescence since the body is not resting on the rock the spider is sitting on.
Frontal view of a Pardosa sp.
The weather has been nice enough for some Pardosa sp. to come out and sunbathe ☀️

Digital sketch study of a common wolf spider. Upper left shows a fun fact diagram of a wolf spider hiding in its home. Wolf Spiders will make burrows in loose dirt and wait for pray to pass by. We learned this when my daugher caught a spider to observe over night and it made a little home on the side of the glass, we took a photo and I referenced it for this image. Top Right shows how drawing a peanut can be a good starting point to drawing any types of spiders.
It's #NationalSaveASpiderDay 🕷️
Wanted to draw a common wolf spider found in many US homes and urban areas. Mostly harmless spiders who just want to be left alone. Let's save a spider!

A friendly philodromid who kept me company in my reading nook yesterday. I'm guessing a Philodromus rufus? #spidersky
Ink and paper cartoon of a human hand offering to a wolf spider parts of a dead roach that's obscured by the tissue its crushed in. "Here's the scent. I want his whole family dead by sunrise." says the person off-panel. Text at the bottom of the panel reads: "Me at 2am talking to the wolf spider in the bathroom about the german cockroach found earlier that afternoon."
Go hunt, my hounds

I highly recommend cleaning your basement if you want to see the world's coolest spiders, like this pretty black laceweaver #spidersky

A velvety black spider, viewed from above, dramatically casting a shadow on a sandy stone floor
I have been granted the honour of a visit with this stunning black laceweaver (Amaurobius ferox). I can't believe there are animals this cool just living in my basement. #spidersky
I love the markings on this T. domestica. Now that we're getting into the back of our woodpile, I see one almost every time I grab firewood from the basement. #spidersky

I miss the brown recluse account from twitter that was available to answer: Is it a brown recluse?
Mostly, "No"
They are reclusive! It's in the name.
This study is also funny since the researcher was trying his damnedest to "pick a fight" with these spiders. They are very shy! #SpiderSky 🕷️ 🧪
Hey #spidersky - need some research help. I'm trying to find any data on the yield point of flagelliform/capture spiral silk. I can find some stress-strain curves but I can't see a yield point on them and my own FAFO-ing suggests it remains elastic MUCH longer than MA silk. Anyone?
