‘Trial of Hein’ Review: Rigorous German Homecoming Drama Is a Haunting Enigma of Memory and Identity A jury prize winner in the Teddy Awards competition for outstanding queer films in Berlin, Kai Stänicke's first feature tracks the title character’s uneasy return to his North Sea island roots.

Debuting German director Kai Stänicke's formally austere homecoming drama TRIAL OF HEIN is a piercing contemplation of queerness, identity and belonging that marks the arrival of a promising new talent. This one stayed with me.

Went this today at @filmlinc.bsky.social and quite enjoyed it. Now have to check out the prior two installments in the series. Interesting contrast with (and echo of) Jarmusch's Father Mother Sister Brother that we watched last night. I think that's plenty of off-kilter families for one weekend.

The Stranger - International Films - Independent Films | Music Box Films In 1930s Algeria, apathetic Frenchman Meursault shows total indifference to life. His emotional detachment leads to a murder, followed by a trial that scrutinizes both the crime and his character.

Ozon’s THE STRANGER is the most magnifique literary adaptation! Period authenticity in B&W, captures Camus & colonialism in Algeria with strong ensemble to really SEE the story & themes. Now @filmlinc.bsky.social @AngelikaFilmNY Next week more @musicboxfilms.com
