Timbers have exactly 0 ideas of how to get the ball in front of the goal except counter attacks and crosses.

Does Inter Miami know what center backs are supposed to do? They seem to be everywhere except in the center of defense.

Would've been better if I had started this at the beginning of the season, but better late than never. Here is a comparison of East and West teams in cross-conference matches.

As much as I like that message and want him to succeed I’m not sure starting 5+ defenders game after game really conveys that
Does Columbus have anyone apart from Rossi who can actually create something in the final third?

Carl Zeiss Jena was so close to beating Wolfsburg to get to the women’s Pokal final. They were clearly the worse team but all they had to do was score their fifth pk.
How is Cincinnati so consistently good at letting players be unmarked in their box
Just put him out wide and let the team get him the ball in dangerous positions. He shouldn't be the one dictating play inside. He should be finishing attacks.
I've thought this for a while, but Cristian Pulisic is a role-player. A very good role-player, but a role-player nonetheless.
His best attributes are his dribbling and (usually) his shooting. This is why I don't understand Poch's obsession with playing him centrally.
Christian Pulisic hasn't been the same since Charlie Kirk died.
Trans women are biologically women.
Trans men are biologically men.
Studies show this.
Trans rights are human rights.
But transphobes would rather spew gender essentialist pseudoscience when its convenient. They say that if a trans woman excels at a sport, its because of male hormones, even if she didn't go through male puberty, then go say that HRT is very dangerous and completely destroys the body.
Any time someone tries to make a rigid definition for what a woman is, they end up having to make a ton of exceptions to fit everyone they see as a woman into their definition. Transitioning biologically changes the body to a state where those same exceptions should logically apply to trans people.
This ban came about because of fascists who pushed anti-trans pseudoscience. Its entire purpose is to erase trans people. It has nothing to do with making women's sports more "fair." This is just the first step in banning trans people from living their lives as who they are.
It’s unfortunate for Miller because it was obviously unintentional but still has to be a red
Getting all of your best attackers really close together can create some really good combination plays if the tempo is high enough. That's a quality Timbers goal. #RCTID
Timbers are actually playing well in the first 15 minutes and are rewarded for it

Timbers should try to have more attacking ideas than just crossing.

It seems like a lot of people still don't know that he admitted to his lawyer that he committed sexual assault. We know this because his lawyer was hacked, so it wouldn't be admissible as evidence in court, but we still do know that he told his lawyer he did it.
If Columbus can get these combos down they will score some really aesthetically pleasing goals this season.

All in all, it doesn't seem like positional fluidity is that great at measuring relationism, as it seemed like it was proposed to do. However, it can show differences in how teams play and can be used to explain those differences so I'll probably use it for some analyses in the future.
However, PSG players still stayed in their structured shape. All of the positions that were supposed to be occupied were occupied, but the player in the position changed. This is what makes PSG different from Chelsea, where CMs occupy the central positions and wingers occupy the wings at all times.
PSG was usually in an organized 3-2-5 structure, like Chelsea was. However, while Chelsea had a strict positional system, where players didn't swap positions much, PSG players were constantly switching within the structure. Kvaratskhelia would come inside, and Dembele would move out wide.
It isn't too surprising to see Pafos and USG with such high horizontal fluidity. As the teams with the least possession, their players who received the ball a lot did so on counterattacks more, where they would have to move horizontally to where they were needed instead of occupying a set position.
Looking at the opposite side of the graph now, there's this cluster that stands out in terms of horizontal fluidity. In it, you have Slavia Prague, the two teams with the lowest possession in the tournament, Pafos FC and Union St. Galloise, and the team with the highest possession, PSG.
Team Average Vertical Fluidity vs. Average Horizontal Fluidity Average Horizontal Fluidity: 18.89 (Stdev: 1.92) Average Vertical Fluidity: 17.61 (Stdev: 1.00)
I also found the average positional fluidity for each team in Champion's League. I mentioned before how Chelsea's center mids did not move side to side much. Chelsea as a whole tends to not be very fluid horizontally or vertically. This comes from playing in such a strict positional system.
Center Forward Average Vertical Fluidity vs. Average Horizontal Fluidity Average Horizontal Fluidity: 23.56 (Stdev: 3.57) Average Vertical Fluidity: 17.24 (Stdev: 2.17)
Center forwards are hard to talk about, as their positional fluidity relies on tactics and match context more than other positions. For example, Quentin Ndjantou, the player with the highest horizontal fluidity, plays for PSG, whose other attackers tend to also have high horizontal fluidity.
Winger Average Vertical Fluidity vs. Average Horizontal Fluidity Average Horizontal Fluidity: 21.01 (Stdev: 6.35) Average Vertical Fluidity: 17.27 (Stdev: 2.15)
Wingers have a large variation of average horizontal fluidities. While some hold the width and let their teammates move in the inside channels, others don't. Some are players who play on one wing for part of the match then swap sides, some are more of inside forwards, and some just play for PSG.
Attacking Midfielder Average Vertical Fluidity vs. Average Horizontal Fluidity Average Horizontal Fluidity: 22.24 (Stdev: 4.44) Average Vertical Fluidity: 16.87 (Stdev: 2.32)
Similar to the other midfield positions, attacking midfielders also tend receive the ball in more varied locations side to side than up and down the pitch, as many of them try to find the ball between the lines instead of dropping far back to find the ball then getting forward into the attack.
