Weecology is hiring a postdoc to work with my long-term, large-scale Everglades wading bird project. We have data on nest effort at multiple spatial scales over 30+ years for multiple species. We also do fun stuff w/ drones. Sound interesting? See our ad! jabberwocky.weecology.org/2026/04/15/p...

A pine processionary nest.
A pine defoliated by the moths.
Another signal, pine processionary moths left their nests and are already hiding underground. Given the amount of leaf damage around, it's been a good year for them.

We had to restore our vegetation plots in Doñana National Park after the massive flooding event of last spring. Ready for the next season!
Poster announcing the workshop.
Join us for an @smtpb.bsky.social workshop on Modern Coexistence Theory. We'll cover mathematical foundations, the theory of partitioning, and data-based applications. Featuring @swatipatel.bsky.social, Nick Kortessis, & Lauren Shoemaker. Zoom link here: smtpb.org/event-6426026
Ecology faces an accumulation of models but not an accumulation of confidence. Our new paper w/ Jonathan Levine www.nature.com/articles/s41... in @natecoevo.nature.com introduces a rigorous test rooted in queueing theory to falsify inadequate models and build confidence in useful ones.

Back from an amazing 1-week visit to @sfiscience.bsky.social for a working group!
No se menciona uno de los argumentos de los científicos críticos, que es precisamente que no hay pruebas sólidas de que criara en España en tiempos históricos. Eso de la extinción en el siglo XIX parece, como mínimo, cuestionable.
Want to do vegetation ecology in Taiwan? I am still searching for postdocs, so if interested, check the ad below and apply!
We focus on ecological drivers of cloud & monsoon forests in mountains and how to explain them using plant functional traits.

Postdoc call in Mechanistic Biodiversity Modelling (up to 6 ya) at my lab @unibonn.bsky.social. We focus on modelling terrestrial plant communities, island biogeography, range dynamics, eco-evolutionary feedbacks, diversity gradients, tropical forests, vascular epiphytes. Pls rt! shorturl.at/CL1ny
Job in my lab: 3yr postdoc on how and when complexity promotes network stability.
Looking for physics, math, or theory folks who use analytical approaches, but there'll be great opportunities for data connections too.

Are you interested in predator-prey interactions and movement ecology?
I am looking for a PhD student to work on the project "A mechanistic theory of functional responses: zooming into movement behaviour to understand and predict predator-prey interactions"

Looking for your first quantitative ecology post-doc? Then get in touch.
I will be co-supervising a post-doc with Lourens Swanepoel (based in SA: @Univenofficial). You will have access to many awesome data sets and the focus will be on applying hierarchical models.

Flooded marshland
Flooded marshland with birds.
This winter had been dry in Doñana until mid January. Now, our vegetation plots are flooded again after 3 dry years. Cranes and egrets are enjoying it!
Just the ID of that individual. This group used to be in charge of that project there, monitoring wintering accentors. Probably still going on.

I've got 5-6 months money for a Postdoc ecological modeller, linking mathematical (translated via statistical) models to insect lab popn. time-series data; starts Jan 2025.
Must be UK-based (not cost/time effective for applicants to get such a short-term visa 😔).
Please contact me if interested!
