Northern Woods Exhibition will be on display April 23-26 at Eden Prairie Center. It's a great opportunity to see the work of a bunch of great Minnesota Woodworkers. I have some pieces on display too. Meet the Makers is Saturday 2pm-4pm.

What the heck is that mallet made of? Elastomeric urethane resin bonds brass particles with a stainless steel core and shaft to make a compact and dense head that has just enough dampening to prevent damage to tool handles. PersonMadeMallet

Handworks 2026 is on for Labor Day weekend in Amana, Iowa! I'm not sure whether I'm more excited or terrified to be officially listed as an exhibitor beside 80+ of the finest hand tool makers and users in world.

I switched accounts to see if I missed anything here.
Nope.
Here's sime video of turning the handle on a PersonMadeMallet since I'm here.

PersonMadeMallet 27-42 getting finished up and listed this week. Getting more efficient and consistent. Some really nice new woods in this batch. Muirapixuna completely new to me (never heard of it!) - hard, fine dark grain, polished beautifully! (want to keep it!)

You need a mallet?
This could be good.
Roughing out handles for PersonMadeMallet. The urethane brass composite head is 75% of the density of solid brass while the urethane gives just enough dampening to protect your tools. A few available - find my shop at PersonMakeObject.

Features include: -cold cast urethane & brass flake head -ShoreD65 dampens but doesn't bounce -handle mortised into head -1/8" brass accent ring -comfortable to grip at the neck or down the handle -1/2" stainless steel hardware embedded in head and handle for mass and structure -numerous hardwood handle options -15-16oz target weight

I've put some more mallets up in my storefront. There's some good wood in there!

Much appreciated. They're getting close!
The brass/resin + stainless hardware is cast in a silicone mold that I made from a delrin positive I turned. Wood handle blank gets roughed out and shoulder cut for tendon then glued onto the head. Final turning shapes the brass ring and handle but barely touches the cast head.
Because it's the Department of Justice's responsibility to prosecute crime's, not Congress'?
Thanks Jes! Looking forward to input and ideas!
Your question got me wondering if a more spherical head would be useful for metalforming in one of those leather shotbags thingies. Need to do a little research...
Weight's are finishing at 16-16.5oz. This mallet would be useful for woodworking, metalwork, leathercraft, jewelery, etc, as long as you're striking blunt tools and objects. Also, it's really freaking nice!
PersonMadeMallet is go!
The head is a composite of elastomeric urethane resin and brass grains. ~75% of the density of solid brass with some dampening from the urethane to protect your chisel's handles won't be damaged. This mallet should work equally well for joinery or carving tasks. #woodworking
Special Security Reasons sounds an awful lot like Putin's Special Military Operation (aka invasion) of Ukraine.

The PersonMadeMallet is happening. Form has been refined and processes improving. Getting psyched about how they're coming out.

Perhaps as a percentage, but do the same number still identify as Republican?
The #personmademallet is close to release. I've learned a LOT from casting variables and tweaking processes. There's more to learn and improve, but the next batch I make will be the first ready for market. They're unique and there's nothing else quite like them.

Sometimes distractions can be pretti and good. Today I'm took some time off from looking out for neighbors and documenting crimes committed by federal agents to work on the PersonMadeMallet. It's getting close.
Peace and strength my friends.

Making progress on the urethane/brass mallet idea. Exploring resin options, working out processes, subtle tweaks to handle shape, working on a jig for testing. Getting feedback at a maker meet-up this week then sending a few out to alpha testers. #woodworking #crafts #tools
It's early, but I think it has promise. Can I put you on the test list Ben?
I'm finally trying to make something with some of the brass shavings I've created since 2020. Urethane resin and brass flake composite woodworkers mallet. 2"dia x 8" long, ShoreD65, 15oz.

Here's the results of the 6in1 screwdriver build mash up video I shared yesterday. I'll be interesting to see what these do at an upcoming holiday market.

Working on some 6in1 screwdrivers with fluted three lobe handles. Beautiful hardwood is much nicer to hold on to than character-free plastic. Hardware harvested from drivers on sale for $2.50ea at a big box store.
