@cmccormack414.bsky.social Have you seen Genesis of the Daleks. This conversation between Davros and the Dr is brilliant

The Corelli Barnet and Chandler biographies are far better
Don't get the Holmes biography that was probably his weakest book and he went off on tangents
@johnaharrison.bsky.social @williamdouro.bsky.social @johnhaines.bsky.social Was Marlborough better than Wellington ?

Jacksons Valley Campaign at the time it happened was compared to Napoleon's Italian Campaign. Would you agree ?

@cmccormack414.bsky.social Finally have you seen the Horror series the Terror. I actually thought it was better than the book (which Iv read) but I'll be interested your thoughts on that as many feel the real life Horror was so strong you didn't need a monster as in this. What say you ?
...Michael Fassenbender and its fun but you can tell where they used up there budget with that 😄
@cmccormack414.bsky.social If you're gonna review The Descent, you might be interested to know there's 2 different endings for that film. One for the UK audience and because they thought US audiences couldn't handle it they went for a more happier ending.
They also did a film called Centurion with
@cmccormack414.bsky.social So I was listening your Dog Soldiers review. Yeah it is trying to be darkly humorous at some points. British humour is a thing that might be tough for Americans. Good practice is Blackadder and Allo Allo and Fawltey Towers as a warm up 😄
Then I may check it out. Space balls esq slapstick can only last so long.
Also Seth Mcfarlane does seem like he's up his own arse a bit which put me off too
Iv watched a couple of episodes awhile back but not otherwise
I will say The effects are a bit dated which compared to say TNG and DS9 which still hold up is saying something
I won't watch any of his Trek shows. I only watched Picard Season 3 because he had nothing to do with it and Terry Matalas was running it
Before the dark times before The Kurtzman
I watched the Premier. It was OK and enjoyable
I like Scott Bakula as Captain Archer.
@storanorrland.bsky.social @artemisapphire.bsky.social So I thought I'd do a watch of Enterprise. Not a Rewatch as while Iv seen certain episodes Iv not actually seen the show before. First up Broken Bow
That and Netanyahu knows how to play him like a fiddle. No other US President was dumb enough to go to war with Iran for Israel but Trump was
@artemisapphire.bsky.social @storanorrland.bsky.social Watching Ad Astra for the first time with Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones
What I'm currently reading
It was in retaliation for Israel hitting there's which would only have happened if Trump had given the go ahead.
Another collection of essays gathered up including one from @kabinettskriege.bsky.social. Another case of me insisting on a hard-to-come by physical book when it’s available for free as a pdf. 📚 #histbookchat
Yesterday I found myself south of the river in London or, as She Who Must Be Obeyed says, abroad. I went slightly overboard on the historical fiction purchases and discovered a bee resting in the library on my return. A bee of good taste! 📚 🐝 📚 Happy Easter! 🐣 #histbookchat
I fancy Tacos for Lunch now 😋
@ageofnapoleon.bsky.social Listening to this now. It should be said the Spanish under Zayas at Albuera proved they could stop the Largest column attack of the War stopping Soults flank attack.
In 1813 at San Marcial they would defeat a French Force in battle as well

Some books worth a read
Today’s haul: I seem to be drawn to the Anglo-Spanish rivalry of the first half of the 18th century at the moment. More interesting Asiento content amongst other things… 🇪🇸 🇬🇧 🌊 📚 #histbookchat
@williamdouro.bsky.social @johnaharrison.bsky.social one to try
Reasonably new publication in yesterday that covers the American frontier from the end of the War of Austrian Succession to the outbreak of the American revolt 😉. 🇬🇧 🇫🇷 🇺🇸 📚 #histbookchat
With an excellent afternoon of talks at @nationalarmymuseum.bsky.social from contributors who’ve remained in the rebellious colonies 😉. The historiography of the Revolution; suffering and the environment; and the home front. 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 👍🏻
