Gibraltar’s chief minister made ‘sinister’ interventions to protect friend from police Inquiry finds Fabian Picardo was ‘grossly improper’ to protect James Levy from a search warrant The chief minister of Gibraltar made a series of “grossly improper” and “sinister” interventions to interfere in a live criminal investigation in order to protect his friend, mentor and business partner from the consequences of a search warrant, a public inquiry has found. The retired England and Wales high court judge and inquiry chair, Sir Peter Openshaw, concluded that Fabian Picardo acted to protect James Levy KC when police were at Hassans law firm, where Levy was a senior partner, on 12 May 2020 with a search warrant from “a legitimate police investigation and operation”. Our ancient woodland close to sunset

Our ancient woodland close to sunset

A silence settles on ancient woodland at sunset

The birds, already singing in hushed tones, go quiet as the shadows lengthen

Any noise at all now alerts the senses of every living thing. The atmosphere is somewhat electric

It is my favourite time

Where are you from that the compassion and empathy of your people is so superior? Ridiculous comment.

Since always. Don’t confuse country with people. You should know that.

It’s that time of year and there are still some Hoodening events that can be found around East Kent, including this one in Whitstable on Monday…

A dizzy student, I was on a plane to Stockholm and the lady sitting next to me spilled wine over me, she was so sorry! When she and her friend found out I was staying 2 hours from the airport and arriving at 1 in the morning, they drove me to my destination even though it was the opposite direction.

Two words which were used in Kent and not in other parts of England at the time of the Domesday Book were units of measurement.

A sulung = the amount of land which could be by four ox-pairs

A yoke = equal to a quarter of a sulung.

Kent had a different system of land tenure, abolished in 1925.

Haha, that was my point really. To get more visibility for two languages which are minoritised and to keep the bigger languages well at bay. Jèrriais is such a beautiful written language, and Shaetlan is just music to the ears!

I’ve just had the privilege of presenting my cousin Alex Purbrick’s short film, “Dreaming of Danu,” at the end of a course offered through the University of Vic, Catalonia, by the How Timely Training Portal. The film is narrated in Shaetlans, and I’ve subtitled it into Jèrriais. Enjoy.

Shetland islanders accuse Tom Daley’s Game of Wool of cultural appropriation Fair Isle practitioners say Channel 4’s knitting show is littered with errors about their historic craft and demand an apology The group chat for Shetland knitters was popping off, says one member, as they settled down to watch the first episode of Game of Wool: Britain’s Best Knitter. But their enthusiasm for the Channel 4 elimination show hosted by former Olympian and crafts enthusiast Tom Daley quickly unravelled. Continue reading...

Sounds a lot prettier than the Cornish 'askel groghen' which could be literally translated as 'skin wing'.
