'A young man was hung out to dry. His health became a point of public debate and conjecture... Carlton could have stopped that, could have taken him quietly from the field and given whatever care was necessary.
Care that was his due and their duty.'

Post-script: we just put a deposit down on an EV in the affordable range because where we live, petrol prices are higher than average and we've had enough. There's a two month wait. I'm very excited. The thing will be the nicest car we have ever owned or driven.

Get the EV. It'll be fine.

Built to last? History shows us the art of reform that’s both bold and enduring Governments are often criticised for lacking ambition and failing to tackle the long-term issues facing Australia. But it’s been done before, and can be again.

AUKUS and the sunk cost trap beneath the surface As warfare shifts decisively toward autonomous and distributed systems, Australia’s massive investment in nuclear submarines risks locking in a costly and inflexible strategy.

AUKUS risks becoming a sunk cost in a rapidly changing military landscape.
As warfare shifts toward autonomous systems, Australia may be locking itself into an outdated and enormously expensive strategy, Stewart Sweeney writes.

Barrera said her husband said the smell of human feces in the toilet caused a fellow detainee to vomit and, in turn, created a chain of people vomiting.
She said her husband is asthmatic and has not received medication to treat his condition. The lack of medicine and the stress of the overcrowded holding cell has left him short of breath and teetering on the edge of an asthma attack, Barrera said.
ICE did not immediately respond to questions on April 10 about the conditions of the Mesa or Phoenix facilities.
After the publication of this article, Barrera told The Arizona Republic her husband was transferred to the ICE facility at San Luis Regional Detention Center at about midnight. The San Luis Regional Detention Center is in Southwestern Arizona and has the capacity to hold 700 people.

This is horrific. A U.S. citizen describes the facility in Arizona that her husband was brought to while he waited to be put on a deportation flight. Dozens of people were crammed into tiny cells, there was a "chain of people vomiting" from filthy toilets, no medical care, and only one meal per day.

No one likes the Job-ready Graduate scheme – so why does it still exist? The architect of the HECS scheme Bruce Chapman, says economists agree, the Job-ready Graduate scheme is bad economics.

The Job-ready Graduates scheme was meant to shape student choices and fix the labour market.
It has done neither – and economists agree it’s bad policy. A better, fairer model is already available, Bruce Chapman writes.
