V pleased they're consulting on this! I've been bitching about these headlights since I was first "blinded" by the stupid things 15(?)+ years ago. Nobody else seemed to give a crap until the last couple of years - now multiple countries considered/considering action!
Why is the #WhatsApp search function so annoying now? It finds whole-word matches ok, but only finds part-word matches if it's the first part of the word. E.g., searching "bluesk" will still find messages containing "bluesky", but searching "luesky" won't anymore. #badtech

The nice thing about Amazon threatening to brick my 2012 Kindle is that I’m free now. They’re taking away my Kindle. I don’t have to get a new one. I can get another e-book reader for all my library loans.

100% - but not just for writing professionals. I'm a consultant in financial law and some of the strongest advice I have for junior colleagues is that the process of writing advice/instructions itself sharpens your analysis and makes you solve problems you'd not even clocked until you started.

I'm told to use chatbots to draft emails at work, but if I tell the chatbot what info it needs to include, how to frame it, who the audience is etc, it's already slower than just writing the email. And if don't, I obviously I get slop.

An interesting hypothesis, but I'm not sure. My experience is largely limited to Copilot but I'm constantly trying and failing to find value in the types of tasks it's marketed for. And peers who claim to use it effectively still miss errors, confusion and "strangeness" in what they produce. Hmm.
