Historical scientific illustration from "Mittheilungen aus der Zoologischen Station zu Neapel" (1879-1921) depicting detailed anatomical and cellular structures of a worm. The image shows various magnified views of worm tissues, including nerve cells and fibrous networks, connected by fine lines to indicate relationships. Labels and reference lines highlight specific components such as nerve fibers, cells with nuclei, and connective structures. The color scheme uses shades of blue and black on a beige background for clarity. This plate exemplifies 19th- and early 20th-century zoological microscopy and anatomical study techniques focused on worm physiology.

Upper and lower dentures mounted in gold. The upper portion is made from human teeth and the lower molars are made from ivory. They are held together by springs.

The frontal section of these gold bases upper and lower dentures is set with human teeth. It is possible that these are 'Waterloo teeth' extracted from cadavers after the Battle of Waterloo.

Salome’s dancing so pleased her stepfather Herod that he offered her anything she wanted. Her mother advised Salome to demand John the Baptist’s head, which Salome presented to her family in an elaborate dish. Here, the head stands on its own, with a startlingly tangible presence. Despite its biblical source, this work was meant for a domestic setting, whose owner would have admired the artful presentation of a shocking story. Acquired in 1953 as the work of the Venetian Renaissance artist Titian, the painting soon lost this attribution because it lacks Titian’s distinctive brushwork. After decades of research, the museum has yet to identify a clear author. Recently, several scholars have argued persuasively for a Spanish artist, partly because the subject is common in Spanish art in the early 1600s. Yet the color scheme and the handling of paint in the face recalls the work of earlier artists inspired by Titian in northern Italy.

The monument to Henry Willoughby in the church of St Leonard in Wollaton, Nottingham has a depiction of him as a cadaver on the lower level. This is known as a transi tomb, and it was considered a way to show humility - even though such monuments were hugely expensive. Willoughby died in 1528.
