Sharing this again in honor of the #Artemis II lunar flyby today
NASA just dropped this image of Artemis II astronaut Christina Koch looking back at us. The first woman to ever see our planet in its entirety. I’m not crying you’re crying 🥹🔭🧪 📸: NASA
Regardless of the issue, it's always the same story: commercial interests allowed to ride roughshod over everything and everyone else. Faced with the urgent need for action, successive governments twiddle their thumbs.

Do you happen to know how scholarly articles got dropped from the claim? When the settlement website was launched, we had 76 articles in the searchable database. Now 0. Were the works dropped during arbitration or did journal publishers claim copyright?

We were profoundly moved by @jayapal.house.gov’s speech honoring the life and legacy of the late, great Nancy Nordhoff. We hope you’ll watch and share it. What an example of a generous life, well-lived.

And the root cause, according to Dr Ralph Chami: anything we can kill or extract from the ocean, we can value; but the living, thriving ocean is not valued as an asset.
Wonderful quote at #worldoceansummit on marine conservation financing: the ocean doesn’t need our sympathy; it needs to be respected as a valuable, irreplaceable asset.

Great quote from @worldwildlife.org ‘s excellent Lucy Holmes at @theeconomistevents.bsky.social’s #WorldOceanSummit: to solve global environmental problems, incrementalism is no longer an option.

A flyer for a fish biomechanics course at the Friday Harbor Labs this summer.
Every other summer we run a fish biomechanics course at Friday Harbor Labs. It is an awesome opportunity to learn the tools of biovisualization while experiencing the rich fish diversity of the Salish Sea. Come join us!

“…an unusual fluency across domains” is both a lovely phrase and an understatement, @mongabay.com. Science. Policy. Law. Diplomacy. All while being extraordinarily gracious and generous with her time, knowledge, and network. We’re so glad to have known her. We’ll miss her.
And in solidarity, we can never give up trying to stop and reverse the biodiversity crisis. Until a species is extinct, we’re not giving up on reversing population declines and protecting and restoring habitats. Onward! 🌊💙
NCAR is quite literally our global mothership.
Everyone who works in climate and weather has passed through its doors and benefited from its incredible resources.
Dismantling NCAR is like taking a sledgehammer to the keystone holding up our scientific understanding of the planet.
Unbelievable.
It is hard to overstate how critical @ncar-ucar.bsky.social is to climate science in the US and around the world. It's the beating heart of our field. Generations of scientists have trained there, and almost everyone I know relies on deep collaborations with NCAR scientists. It's end is unthinkable.
We love this! 100 scientists share the kids’ books that inspired their careers. What a gift list!

Traveling with fish-eating killer whales provides a refuge from the mammal-eating killer whales. The dolphins may be searching for the herring that the Chinook salmon are eating. This also highlights the potential for pathogen transfer across species! academic.oup.com/bioscience/a...
