I am what an adjunct is supposed to be- I have a day job, and I am teaching a class based on my expertise in that day job. I am not using adjunct pay as a major part of my income.

And yet, students are always shocked by the reality of this stuff. If we talked about it more openly, they wouldn't be.

Example: Had to take a remote day because of a health flare. Wanted to go an explain what I have, what I feel, what I need to do.

In the end just said "I am having a health flare, nothing to worry about but I will need to work remotely today."

Boss responded with an ok and didn't demand details

Moving from a dysfunctional to healthy work environment is some whiplash

I keep wanting over explain myself and give too many personal details. Because that was what was expected before, I knew so much of my coworker and supervisors personal lives and health info

Luckily I have held myself back

Question for naval history/gunnery people. I've been asked if anyone can identify this. It was given to the museum by the Newhaven Port Authority. It is 36 inches long, and with a bore of around 3". There's no obvious maker's mark on it. #NavalHistory #Archaeology

Pretty cool to make buried monuments visible again... If only for a short while. More of this please 😊

My photo shows an insect usually referred to as a grasshopper, engraved on a fragment of bone during the Magdalenian period of the Upper Paleolithic. It is drawn in a naturalistic style, shown in profile facing right, with two pairs of front legs and antennae. It was discovered c. 1928 in the cave habitat of the Grotte d'Enlène, in the foothills of the French Pyrenees.

Jiminy Cricket!

It’s an #IceAge grasshopper!

The so-called ‘Grasshopper of Enlène’, engraved on bone some 17,000 - 14,000 years ago, is the most detailed representation of an insect in Paleolithic art known to date. From the Enlène Cave, Ariège, France. Magdalenian period.

This is an example of how nostalgia for the old days is simply nostalgia for when you were younger.

The idea that America was a post-racial society in the 1970s/1980s only makes sense if you were literally a child at that time and couldn’t observe what any adult was experiencing.

The story of the pride flag made from NASA imagery: Bluesky’s most-liked image Last June, a striking image of a pride flag made up of NASA imagery became the most-liked post on the new social media network Bluesky, a post it held for 2 months. I spoke with its creator Rachel …

This pride flag made out of NASA imagery was, for several weeks, the most-liked image on Bluesky. Then the Trump administration made NASA take it down.

Establishing the President's Make America Healthy Again Commission By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered: Section 1.

This commission statement refers to people with Autism, ADHD, asthma, auto-immune disease, and chronic illness as a “dire threat to the American people and our way of life”.

This is a manifesto against disability.

This is the language of eugenics.

As I haven't heard/seen anything from the 5 reports I've made to @support.bsky.team, I need everyone's help to report/block the fake account of me (it copied my profile & posts) that is gaining followers and DMing people for $$$. The real me (Dr. G) has a last name that begins with N, not M. 🧪🌊⚒️

Adding a link to the Joint Resolution itself www.congress.gov/bill/119th-c...

This proposal will negate a lot of our industry. This a Senate Joint resolution introduced earlier this week, titled A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management relating to "Protection of Marine Archaeological Resources".

The text of the resolution isn’t online yet, but you can track progress here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-joint-resolution/11/all-info

The resolution has been referred to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources by the Senate. Co-sponsored by Sens John Kennedy (R-LA) and Sen Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS). It will have to be voted out of Committee for full Senate approval, then move to the House. It’s not a done deal yet, but you can guess where it’s leading.

Now more than ever archaeologists should take notice about what they wrote vs what their employer/client submitted. Famous recent case in Louisiana where a hired archaeologist recommended more work & an area avoided because of a slave cemetery. The client changed it to read "no adverse effects". 1/
