[open access link: lnkd.in/ev-jynmU] For me, this was a labour of love. Young people’s voices are often overlooked in food policy. Yet these messages are meant for them & they want to contribute. #ChildHealth #Nutrition #YouthVoices #CoDesign

It was very obvious to me anyways. Media rarely frames this area appropriately, sadly as we know.

Though I was laughing when I read it as I didn't think you had actually been consulted about the article. We have a big challenge still when talking about prevention when our population already carries high levels of overweight and obesity.

Thanks Amy - media often does this to cause even more stigma.

➡️ Most participants supported wider use of VITAL-COMS in healthcare settings.
➡️ This tool offers a safe space for repeatable and reflective practice, addressing a critical need for compassionate non-stigmatising weight-related conversations in healthcare settings. 3/4

Happy mothers day to all the mums and all the aunties who support them. Thinking today too of those today whose mums are no longer with us or have difficult relationships. Children are precious and they need our love, support and protection longer than you think.

I didn't say it was simple. I'm just putting forward some points that haven't been talked about.

who silenced you?

And what about mum/daughter feelings - where did he allow for them? It was ALL about him.

You don't think insisting getting paint immediately, dragging everyone along, throwing a wobbly when he couldn't get it, paint all over the van, making it dangerous for mum/daughter, chasing after 2 children, trying to wreck a bike was 'acting out'. Goodness, we've normalised so much.

Our attempt at 'understanding' is shaped by our experiences so that is imperfect too. It is good to challenge even our own perspective. The entire final Ep was about Dad. Everything evolved around him, mother/daughter treading on egg shells. But that is so normalised in society, it is hard to see.

My point - role of the parents, the father in particular, was missed completely. They were cast as 'good parents', when clearly there were things they could have done better. I didn't say they were bad parents (nonsense false binary good/bad) but they did have a role to play. What was your point?

The Garron Noone thing is a real microcosm of what is wrong these days. Say anything on internet without evidence, believing you are the one truth, then become a victim and split the world with supporters and challengers. Rinse and repeat, while nothing changes for people who actually need help.

bad parenting comes in different guises though

Did you not think this was an odd take? The son was clearly trying to be like the dad/fit in eg by playing football - but wasn't good enough (in his Dad's eyes). Saying one child 'is good', doesn't absolve you of influence on other children. Message here - be like us (your parents) and you'll be ok?

Seriously? A good parent? I've been fascinated by how we all take so many different things from this. The anger and aggression by the Dad in ep 4, making it all about him, dragging everyone to what he wanted, everyone treading on eggshells around him.

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

It was very clear the son was trying desperately to be like his Dad/fit in. Even when the Dad said he tried to be different from his father but was unaware he made it all about HIM - Ep 4 was all about him and notice how the daughter/Mum tried to placate him and lots of 'treading on eggshells'. /End

discussions dominate but so many more layers to unpick. In general it shows (to me), that adults don't understand children much and this divide is getting wider as generations differ in social structures, use of tech etc. I was more scared by the father throughout - especially in episode 4. 2/3

Having watched Adolescence/Netflix as a well acted, interesting, topical drama, the discussion surrounding it is now more interesting than the drama itself! It is fascinating how many don't see that their family background influences what they conclude or see in this drama. 'Toxic masculinity..' 1/3

The more I'm involved in PPI in areas like eating disorders, mental health and obesity care, the more frustrated I become at the lack of understanding. Its also a challenge to balance your lived experience with your research experience. I have to find time and a suitable forum to write about this.
