I too "live in ceaseless dread and fury of fossil fuels, Elon Musk, toxic masculinity, TERFs and neo-Nazis."

Am I allowed to join the femosphere?
Maybe as an associate member?

Pope Leo: "The world is being ravaged by a handful of tyrants, yet is held together by a multitude of supportive brothers and sisters. The masters of war pretend not to know that it takes only a moment to destroy, yet often a lifetime is not enough to rebuild."

There are only 44 female TD’s in the Dáil. Each female Minister who stood up to speak during the confidence motion was heckled and shouted over during their speaking time by Independent Ireland. It is not acceptable.

Illiberalism Is Not Inevitable If Viktor Orbán can lose, then his Russian and American admirers can lose too.

How did Magyar win? A long running grassroots campaign in rural and small town Hungary; a refusal to be distracted by government propaganda; a focus on economic issues and corruption; a central promise to bring back democracy and the rule of law

When people tell you who they are, believe them.

We have all learned a lesson here. Any future protests need to have a few tractors and claim to speak for rural Ireland and we will be able to grind the country to a halt with no state pushback

I fully support people's right to protest but I don't support far right bullshit pretending to be about farmers and hauliers and I can't recall another protest ever being allowed to bring the city to a halt for 36 hours and still going without any consequences whatsoever

Sully Prudhomme - The first Nobel Prize in Literature laureate

The Broken Vase

The vase where this verbena is dying
was cracked by a blow from a fan.
It must have barely brushed it,
for it made no sound.

But the slight wound,
biting into the crystal day by day,
surely, invisibly crept
slowly all around it.

The clear water leaked out drop by drop.
The flowers’ sap was exhausted.
Still no one suspected anything.
Don’t touch! It’s broken.

Thus often does the hand we love,
barely touching the heart, wound it.
Then the heart cracks by itself
and the flower of its love dies.

Still intact in the eyes of the world,
it feels its wound, narrow and deep,
grow and softly cry.
It’s broken. Don’t touch!

The very first Nobel Prize in Literature in history was awarded to Sully Prudhomme in 1901.

Most people don’t know him today - which makes it even more interesting to read the man who started Nobel literary history.

Try his elegant, heartbreaking “The Broken Vase”.

Last week, I encountered THE biggest wild native Irish tree of my life: the Brian Boru Oak, once part of Galway and Clare's mighty Slieve Aughty rainforest.

(Zoom in to see Sonia of the Woodland League for scale.)

Can you even imagine when this sort of magnificence was nothing special?

Dear @irishtimes.com readers,

This happened: Four ambulances burned in an antisemitic attack in London in the early hours of Monday morning.

Remarkably, you won't have seen it reported in your paper.

Undo birthright citizenship, and Trump can deport anyone at any time for any reason.

And without any citizenship in any other country, where would they (including me) go?

Would this be cause for political asylum?

Asking for a friend... not me... an outspoken Trump critic...

'When Trump announced that he might bomb Iran’s oil facilities on Kharg Island “a few more times just for fun”, a new note was being sounded in human history – the open relishing of annihilation as entertainment.'
