Last week we made our first fieldwork day for the project #RarAvis at #Doñana National park. We installed 12 recorders in the flooded marshland and as you can see, the logistics was not easy! A very beautiful & exhausting field day :-) Thanks to @oapngob.bsky.social for funding! #PAM #ecoacoustics

Today I asked my students who is their favourite female scientist? They need to write a short dissertation of why she has inspired them. What is yours? And why?? Happy #11F

Plant-frugivore mutualisms are ancient!

Fossil evidence shows that frugivorous animals were likely helping plants spread their seeds as early as 120 million years ago

I've enjoyed a lot participating in the #CS3 conference at Seville. Javier Galeano presented a talk about the #AcousticNicheHypothesis in which I was co-author and I had great fun with my colleagues from several years ago. Above all, I've learnt a lot! cs3.es/conference-2...

Misusing research to trap songbirds in Spain

Together with other Spanish scientists working in bird conservation, we have published this letter in @ScienceMagazine highlighting our concern of hunters trapping finches under the excuse of conducting scientific research

Enjoying the last fieldwork day of the year in #Doñana National Park. The marshland is flooded and waterbirds abound. We could spot some rare ones such as marbled ducks, critically endangered. This corner of SW Europe never leaves you indifferent. Looking forward to 2026! #BIRDeep #RarAvis

More than 7000 flamingos were spotted today, added to many other bird species. Not in a very remote place, but in Doñana! A wonderful visit to Veta la Palma that really made me feel very happy and fortunate with this work.

Yesterday, I went back to Doñana's marshaland after almost one year. The extraordinay flooding of this spring and summer made innaccesible the area by car until now, what is a problem to replace batteries and cards of #AudioMoths. Always a luxury to work here. #BIRDeep

Following Matthias Rillig's advice, I'm celebrating that the just received evaluation of the grant #BIRDeep (2022-2024), in which I was the PI, is overall positive. The evaluation committee qualified the results of the project as "satisfactory". It's a relief and a small milestone in my career

Today is the 1st August (school holidays and official holidays at the University) and I received five requests as reviewer/editor at the same time... It's great that authors want to submit their paper before holidays, but the also reviewers and editors need a break.
