Ashland High School students walk out to demand climate accountability, protest ICE actions - Ashland News - Community-Supported, NonProfit News About 200 Ashland High School students walked out of their classrooms Friday and marched to Ashland Plaza to demand action on climate change and immigration enforcement.

Young people didn't cause the climate crisis, but they damn sure know who did. They're demanding elected officials hold fossil fuel corporations accountable. With the Climate Resilience Superfund bill in Oregon, lawmakers choose who pays for resilience and recovery. Us or the Polluters. #orleg

CAPTION: Two residents wade through chest-deep water after finding bread and soda from a local grocery store after Hurricane Katrina came through the area in New Orleans, Louisiana.

They appear to be doing the same thing to try and survive in the midst of a disaster. Notice anything different between them? Yep. You got it. The color of their skin.

Great example of how racism operates in media coverage. These two different frames on the same actions to survive in the midst of adversity have very significant consequences.

If they saying you are “finding” they send the National Guard to save you but if you are “looting” they send the National Guard to shoot you. Framing is often a matter of life and death.

20 years since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, killing over 1800 people and displacing over 1.5 million, many of whom were never able to return.

So one more time for all the people in the back: there is no climate justice without racial & economic justice. #ClimateSky

🥀The gas industry's insecurities are showing. Threatened by Ashland youth climate policy, gas execs have hired Luce Research to make robo calls around the Rogue Valley to spread misinformation and shut down climate action.

This is total fossil fuel front-group behavior and we won't let it slide!
