A four-panel comic called Coop or Sharpie: A Guide. In panel 1, a cooper's hawk is shown, with a pale nape and rounder tail. A sharp-shinned hawk is shown with a small, rounder head, thinner legs, and a more squared tail. In panel 2, a coop is shown holding a sharpie marker, next to a sign where it has written KEEP YOUR BIRD FEEDERS FULL OR ELSE. In panel 3, an immature coop is shown, with thin, darker streaks on its breast. An immature sharpie is shown with rough, lighter streaks on its breast. In panel 4, an immature adult coop is shown making fart noises in its wingpits. An immature adult sharpie is shown saying the word "butts" repeatedly.
How to tell a Cooper's Hawk from a Sharp-shinned Hawk. An oldie.

Velociraptor skull studies at the California Academy of Sciences, June 18, 2025.
Velociraptor foot and miniature skeleton studies, plus bonus Tyrannosaurus skull model, at the California Academy of Sciences, June 18, 2025.
A bit of sketching from casts at @calacademy.bsky.social to round out the theropod chapter of my dinosaur study. Norell's comparisons of the Velociraptor to a fox or coyote are weirdly endearing.

A day in the life of Prometheus
I love this dinosaur so much. It looks like a little Star Wars alien
"Don't you want to stop him?"
"NO I WANT TO KRILL HIM! I wanna put Sentinel on plates and march him through the mines so everyone can see him for the FALSE PRAWN that he is! I want him to simmer, and then to FRY in DARKNESS."

Couple of studies of the face of Homotherium latidens based on the cub mummy.
Enjoy!
Visiting the Landesmuseum Württemberg today, my old stumping grounds. The archaeological collections are exceptional, one of the many highlights: The head of a cave lion carved in mammoth ivory some 40,000 years ago. Tiny (H. 2.1cm) but truly remarkable. From the Vogelherd Cave/Swabian Jura

This is still a better representation of a living dinosaur than you would find in most museums, and a couple of people did this in a couple of days and it's entirely edible. One of my favourite things ever.
Ice age belongs to Disney now, so I did a crossover with Brother Bear.

Illustration of a mother sabertooth cat standing with three small cubs underneath her. A painterly green background is grassy tundra dotted with small flowers.
Another day, another Homotherium artwork!
Mother sabertooth standing over her three-week old cubs, based on the amazing recently published permafrost mummy kitten.
Illustration of a giant dinosaur skeleton in a decayed museum setting. In front is a railing with decayed guide signs and birds looking up at the fossil.

If I reach similar levels to my Twitter on here I am 100% abandoning that place entirely.
Sharing one of my more popular pieces to help that along :))

Latest paper from our work on satellite-tagged golden eagles in Scotland, showing considerable intra-regional variation of home range sizes. Also, tiny ranges in Outer Hebrides (closed sub-pop) vs large in NE Highlands (many unoccupied territories due to persecution). www.mdpi.com/1424-2818/16...

HERPETARY🌿✨🦎
Three small illustrated portraits showing the head of a sabertooth (Homotherium) kitten from three angles. The cub has blue eyes, chocolate brown fur and a white tuft of hair on the chin. It closely resembles a lion cub in proportions, but has a more robust snout, smaller ears and a round forehead.
What an amazing little kitty!
A palaeontological dream come true - a three-week old sabertooth kitten was preserved in the Siberian permafrost. Surprisingly, even bleached by millenia in the soil, the fur is still a pretty dark brown. In life, it might have been nearly black.
I mostly subscribe to the current idea that macrauchenids did not have a tapir trunk but then I look at stuff like this and it's like. what is this
