I've been dreaming of shooting wild hockey on Tagish Lake for years, but conditions don't set up. Last winter, Windy Arm lived up to its name and half of the snow got stripped during a mid-winter warm spell. Magic.

This photo was taken at 11:36 AM. Whitehorse is rather far west in out timezone, and we are on permanent daylight savings time, so our mid-day is actually ~2 PM.

Winter sunrises are late, but even on the shortest day of the year, it is still light out at 5 PM.

In the Yukon, we have a few weeks in the depths of winter where the sun never rises higher than 6 degrees above the horizon - golden hour stretches to five-and-a-half, removing the line between sunrise and sunset.

Quality over quantity.
