working on a fish game for a jam

eat fish > get bigger > eat bigger fish > conquer the world (pond)

i have pivoted and trashed the charging attack, blocking, and stamina. the fun ive found is in the fast paced movement, dashing, and slashing

also it FEELS GOOD to cut shit!!!! makes you lightweight and free to explore

working on a small game for a personal game jam of one month

this is the beginnings of HOLY WRIT, an arena combat game

this week ive implemented the attack charging, blocking, dashing, and a very scalable viewmodel and movement system

almost ready for some enemies

had an idea for a horror game on Steam with persistent/real world elements sort of like OneShot

having a bot Steam account setup where the antagonist messages the player *on their Steam account*

I feel like the chill you would get from receiving a 'look behind you' from "RESTRICTED" would be crazy

did you end up figuring this out? happy to help you debug if you have questions!

I had some poor experience with Ubuntu & Fedora so I suppose I also haven't found a distro i feel comfy in

I have a friend who recently did, hes had a host of strange issues. Wayland suppprt seems to have weird bugs. like Discord supporting earlier wayland only, causing stream issues etc

didnt want to fix those edge cases but maybe im overthinking it 🤷

got a new laptop and de-shittifying Windows is insane

bloatware, ads, cortana, mobile games pre installed

worst of all is OneDrive, which feels like fighting a viral contagion. I finally managed to fully remove it after way too long

if compatibility wasnt an issue for Linux, id make the switch

thinking about doing another game jam. any jams coming up you're excited about?

the company i work at does a monthly newsletter and this guy sent an email to the ENTIRE COMPANY being a bigot

heads up that when browsing #gamedev feed you can block the new ads by excluding the "promotion/ads" tags, or using @steinmakesgames.bsky.social's gamedev feed instead!

getting him into the engine

some outline goofiness from the normals being messed up, and i think he needs some more texturing to add some flavor; he's a bit bland once in a scene

ya im inclined to agree, I think there will always be this tension when there is no platform hosting. it means someone ends up absorbing the costs at the mercy of communal funding.

I just think there was a somewhat irrational jump here that lessens the efforts made by him by a substantial degree

donations! that is a genuine approach to reaping the goodwill of a community.

injecting ads and reaping the goodwill of the community by expecting tolerance for that is disingenuous and not the correct approach imo.

I'd be happy to donate to offset the incursion of ads

my thoughts on it are that yes I know you need to keep the lights on, and im sympathetic to someone supporting a community without pay or reimbursement

however, injecting ads into a communal space perverts that goodwill you've sowed & actively erodes the communal space entirely

would love to have some alternative feeds if anyone has suggestions!
