I spend 1.5 years doing this. Full rewrite last summer and another partial rewrite last month. As Hemingway said: "First draft of everything is always shit".
Convenience maybe? 4x4 is aligned and can be easily inverted
#SIGGRAPH2025 Advances in Real-Time Rendering in Games course talk recording of "Stochastic Tile-Based Lighting in HypeHype" by Jarkko Lempiäinen from HypeHype is now online: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8O44...

I finally found the time and energy to make a new blog and write a couple of posts. This time I wrote about PBR content and game development principles. Both posts are quite different so hopefully people find something interesting on either one of them.

TinyBVH 1.6.7 is now available on the main branch. Changes:
* TinyBVH now only needs C++11 (tiny_ocl.h needs C++17)
* Full-sweep SAH builder is now threaded
* Fix for crash in BuildAVX
Still zero dependencies. :)
And: The repo reached 1k stars!

A preview of three pages and a teaser image from the SIGGRAPH 2025 paper "Rectangular Surface Parameterization" by Etienne Corman & Keenan Crane, as well as a trophy with the SIGGRAPH logo embossed on it and the text "Best Paper Award (Honorable Mention)."
Very happy to receive a SIGGRAPH 2025 Best Paper Award (Honorable Mention) for our RSP algorithm, which dices surfaces into near-perfect rectangles.
Such meshes are useful for everything from retopology, to microfluidic simulation, to textile design, to architectural geometry.
Fun new paper at #SIGGRAPH2025:
What if instead of two 6-sided dice, you could roll a single "funky-shaped" die that gives the same statistics (e.g, 7 is twice as likely as 4 or 10).
Or make fair dice in any shape—e.g., dragons rather than cubes?
That's exactly what we do! 1/n

Made some updates to my old grass renderer after reading a recent blog post on grass rendering. Clumping the grass with noise and adding specular highlights makes it look much better

Managed to get Nvidia Flow (PhysX) to compile and run, after initially failing the other week. Was curious for a quick peek now that it's been open sourced (github.com/NVIDIA-Omniv...)
Flow itself isn't CUDA based, but instead uses compute shaders

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Scripps Research Institute have developed a groundbreaking UNIVERSAL coronavirus vaccine that triggers STONG immune responses AND shows promise in neutralizing MULTIPLE coronaviruses, including those responsible for causing COVID-19, MERS, AND even the “common cold.” 🧪🧵⬇️

Pixel art still life study of some citrus fruit and an S. Pellegrini lemonade bottle. A grater and bowl suggest that some fresh lemonade is about to be made. The reflections off the bottle, metal grater and bowl catch the light from behind the viewer, as well as the saturated oranges, yellows and greens in the scene.
"Lemonade" - 100 x 128 pixel study
Practicing the fundamentals - reflections, colors and shapes.
The bottle is my pride and joy :)

put my unreal plugin on the Fab thing and someone bought a copy. That's the first time in my ~25 years working in computer programming where a person directly paid for software I made. Working in computers is weird...
