Baked, fried or fileted: Fish dishes can link us to our histories The food we grow up with says a lot about our heritage and community. Researchers are on a mission to connect people to local fishers — and introduce more Americans to a more diverse array of seafood.

Tonight on NPR, my friend Talia Young talks about the ways her non profit Fishadelphia helps build community by connecting more people to local fishers www.npr.org/2025/04/29/n...

Trump seeks to end climate research at premier U.S. climate agency White House aims to end NOAA’s research office; NASA also targeted

BREAKING from @science.org: The Trump admin is seeking to kill nearly all climate research at NOAA, its climate science agency.

Its near-final budget proposal would end all NOAA research labs, academic institutes, and regional climate centers. And it wants to fully end the NOAA Research division.

I'm able to make this animation of how the ocean breathes in and out CO₂ because of data collected by NOAA scientists, data served at NOAA websites, and tools provided by NASA. All are under threat of being dismantled by the Trump administration.

Great study led by @sarahhuelsen.bsky.social!
Not all mangroves are equally at risk from tropical cyclones and sea level rise — but those providing the most ecosystem services often are. 🌿 🌪️

Asian grocery stores, a lifeline for immigrants, brace for steep new tariffs Asian grocery stores are a lifeline to the communities they serve. But store owners say the prospect of sweeping tariffs are threatening their ability to stock up on goods and keep prices affordable.

The rationale for this cancellation is climate denial.

There is no dressing it up, there is no tiptoeing around it.

Yet climate change doesn’t care if we believe it. It will destroy our homes, multiply insurance rates, wreak economic havoc and more — regardless of our opinions or voting record.

Maine Sea Grant regains funding after industry, congressional pushback The Maine Sea Grant program regained funding just days after the Trump administration cut funding without warning

It looks like Maine Sea Grant is being reinstated, thanks in large part to the massive public outcry, including by our working waterfront. Celebrate the wins, because they show us what works and energize us for the next round. 💪🏻 🌊 🌲

Trump administration cuts $4.5M Maine sea grant, leaving 20 employees in uncertainty The Trump administration is terminating $4.5 million in funding for a Maine sea grant.

I just learned that the entire Maine Sea Grant program was cut, in a state where fishing is a huge part of livelihoods. This action will jeopardize the future resilience of coastal communities in the state.

Home - NOAA Ocean Acidification Program NOAA's Ocean Acidification Program prepares us for the impacts of ocean acidification through research and interdisciplinary partnerships.

One of the people fired from NOAA today is the director of the Ocean Acidification Program. That program also leads the U.S. government's effort on marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR). The destruction of American science is incomprehensible.

Dear @hhmi.bsky.social: As a private organization with billions of available dollars, you should have been exactly the kind of organization to resist government overreach. There is no earthly reason why IE3 should have been shut down. So many are saddened and angry.

I just checked the 100 most recent job ads on various marine biology Facebook groups and jobs boards.

2 involve SCUBA diving.

The overwhelming majority of marine biology jobs do not involve SCUBA diving at all.

Which means you can follow your dreams even if you medically can't SCUBA dive!

In New England, climate change is moving fast. The fishing industry is not The $20 billion industry is struggling to keep up as new fish move into the region, and old reliables, like cod and lobster, flee for colder waters.

Some valuable fish have been expanding north into New England as waters warm. But while the fish are moving, the regulations are stuck.

The Loss of Beneficial Thermal Priming on Global Coral Reefs Periods of unusually warm ocean temperatures, known as marine heatwaves, have increased due to climate change, which can cause the bleaching and death of tropical corals. One way in which corals can ....

Warming up, just not too hard, can help you survive an intense workout. In a new study led by Xinru Li, we found that "priming" - sub-lethal exposure to heat stress - can also help coral reefs survive heat waves... provided the heat waves are not too severe.
