Early on was not exactly comfortable.

Balls into the box, headers, Ward already having to deal with it. You can feel where this might be heading straight away. We get a foothold though with corners, crosses, bits of pressure, Smith involved, Hyam getting chances on set pieces.

Then 40’. Windass from range. Low. Clean. Finds it.
Oxford 0 - 1 Wrexham.

And from there… it turns into a different game.

Second half feels like a siege.

Cross after cross. Header after header. Blocks, deflections, second balls dropping everywhere.

Ward right in the middle of it: saves from range, dealing with shots through bodies, holding onto everything he can.

Hyam throwing himself at everything: headers, clearances, bodies in the way when it’s coming in waves.

Smith still giving an outlet when we break: involved in the move for the goal, linking things when we get a second.

But mostly? It’s defending. Proper, backs-to-the-wall defending.

Last 10 minutes feel a bit chaotic. Corners stacking. Shots flying in. One saved. One over. One blocked.

We’re just waiting for another to drop. Nothing else does. Ward keeps it clean.

👑 DANNY WARD: 26.7%
Early save. Late save. Everything in between. Ball kept coming in, he kept dealing with it.

🥈 JOSH WINDASS: 23.3%
At 40’ hits it from range → gives us the game

🥉 DOM HYAM: 13.3%
Right in the middle of it when it’s dropping in the box. Headers, blocks, clearances, constant movement.

🏅 SAM SMITH: 10.0%
Involved in the goal, linking play when we actually got forward.

👑 MAN OF THE MATCH: DANNY WARD

Hands together, tape wrapped, just clapping it out like it’s another day… but you know what’s just happened. We're back in it. We're daring to believe. Again.

Everything’s been coming at him.
Crosses, headers, shots through bodies. All of it.

And he’s just stood there taking it, dealing with it, not making a thing of it.

Those socks pulled high as ever, yeah, the slutty little thigh-highs made an appearance, planted in the middle of it all while everything’s flying in.

There’s no big celebration in it. No chest out, no roaring.

Just that look of: job's done.

Because when it’s like that, constant, messy, dropping everywhere, someone has to hold it.

And today, it was him.

Your #WTSMOTM Danny Ward.

40’: Windass gives us the lead. Then it’s just Ward for the next 50 minutes.

Saves, crosses, bodies in the box. Everything coming in, everything dealt with.

Holds it. Keeps it.

That’s the win.

First half hour was messy.

Fouls, stoppages, Stoke getting balls wide, nothing really sticking. Game just drifting.

Thomason already in it though. Shot from range early, corners, popping up everywhere. He was fully involved before anything actually lands.

Then at 31’. Ball drops to him at a stupid angle… and he hits it anyway. Drives it across goal → chaos → Windass gets the touch.

1-0.

33’. Windass again. Central. Clean. Done.

2-0.

Two minutes. That’s it. After that, it's just a matter of control.

Thomason still everywhere. Free kicks won. Fouls drawn. Always around it.

Windass still getting chances, still involved, but nothing bigger than what’s already happened.

Stoke hit the bar late but it was all mouth and no trousers.

The game then just runs out.

👑 GEORGE THOMASON: 33.3%
31’, tight angle, shouldn’t go anywhere… hits it anyway → creates the opener. Already in everything before that. Still in everything after it. That stretch + the presence around it all game.

🔥 JOSH WINDASS: 28.6%
31’, gets the touch in, 33’, buries the second. Always in the right place. Always a problem.

⚖️ MATTY JAMES: 9.5%
Sits underneath it all and keeps it steady.

Mid-stride and absolutely built for it.

Ball just ahead, left foot ready to take it, right leg driving through. Everything about the movement shows control. Quads doing the work, calves engaged, that clean push off the turf where the whole lower body is firing properly.

Shorts riding slightly with the stride, legs fully on show, muscle switching on and off with each step, nothing soft about it. Just that kind of movement where power and control are happening at the same time.

Upper body tight and steady, shoulders set, arms locked in just enough to balance. Shirt pulling across the chest and back as he moves, fabric stretched where it needs to be. You can see the structure of it, not exaggerated, just solid and functional.

There’s weight behind every step, but it’s controlled. No scramble. No wasted motion.

Ball stays close because everything else is doing its job.

It’s proper athletic movement, the kind that looks good because it does the necessary work.

And yeah… when it looks like that, The Section are going to notice.

At 31’, you see it drop to him. You’re not really expecting anything… then he fires it toward goal, you’re already halfway out your seat when Windass heads it in.

Heavily involved throughout. He's Tommo!

First half?
Honestly? Not awful.

Bit scrappy, bit stop-start. Fouls. Injuries. Nothing really flowing. But we were in it. And more important, we were holding them to nil-nil.

But the warning signs were there.
Cross after cross.
Headers. Saves. Blocks.

Okonkwo basically running a one-man resistance effort inside 20 minutes. Saves from headers, close-range chances, bodies flying at him.

You could feel it building. Not a collapse. Just pressure rising.

0-0 at halftime and you’re thinking:
"Alright. We’re still here. Nick something. Maybe."

Then 48’.

Header. 1-0.
Of course it’s a header. Felt inevitable with how many they were throwing in.

And from there, it shifts.

We try to respond. Rathbone from range, bits around the box, but nothing clean. Nothing that really tests them.

Meanwhile, they’re still doing the same thing:
wide → cross → chaos.

Then 71’. Corner.
Scramble. Goal. 2-0.

And that’s the moment it dies.

Not dramatically. Not explosively. Just quietly over.

Final 20 minutes is just fouls, breaks, subs, delays. The game drifting to a finish everyone can see coming.

No late push.
Just erosion.
And done.

That’s you. You're the MOTM.

4:00 AM. 7:00 AM. 12:00 PM. Whatever kickoff time was. That's you.
Mud still on the socks. Eyes saying "why did we do this to ourselves?"
Still sat there like you've played 90 minutes emotionally.

Wear your kickoff time like a badge of honour.
Towel over the shoulders like you've just come off after putting in a shift… except the shift was waking up or traveling for that performance.

Energy drink cans, coffee cups, snack wrappers everywhere. Alarm clock and phone screens glowing.

And yet… still here. Still showed up. Always will. Proper Section legend behaviour. Give yourselves a clap off.

🔥 MOTM — JOSH WINDASS

There’s just something about him, isn’t there.

That slightly upright, almost casual stance like he’s not even trying that hard, but still ends up being the most dangerous man on the pitch. Shoulders relaxed, chest open, that quiet confidence of someone who knows he’s got something.

Kit never quite sits normally on him either. Slutty white shorts clinging just enough after 90 minutes. Not pristine, not messy. Just worked. Shirt sleeves riding up a bit, showing those forearms that look like they’ve spent the entire match scrapping, holding off defenders, winning little battles no one else notices.

And the movement? That’s the real hook.
Not frantic. Not rushed. Just smooth. Gliding into pockets, turning at the right moment, always half a step ahead like he’s already seen what’s about to happen.

There’s a bit of edge to it to.
That look when he scores, not over the top, not screaming. Just a little nod, a little "well, yeah, obviously."

Main character energy without needing to shout about it.

Even today, in a game that got away from us, he still looked like the one player who might just drag something out of nothing. And honestly? That’s half the reason the votes pile in.

Because when everything else is chaos…
he still looks composed.

And yeah, let’s be honest, that helps.
