Reminder that measles is one of the most contagious viruses in existence. Just one infected person can spread the respiratory virus to 90% of non-immune people in the same room. Oh, and it's airborne and can live in the air for two hours. Masking in public settings can protect you.

“The last night I was a pediatric resident, a child came in with Hib and promptly died by the next day. I didn’t work for 50 years to have everything destroyed by one man.”

This is what RFK Jr. and the anti-vaxxers have wrought.

Graphic with a computer screen showing the change.org petition titled “Demand Federal Action on Biomedical Care for Children Living with Long COVID” The French translation of this title is immediately below. Below the titles is the Children’s Long Covid Network (CLCN) logo. This includes a graphic of a highly stylized hand, palm up, in a dark teal colour. In the hand are three figures in a coral pink colour. Beside this graphic is the organization’s name and tagline, which reads: “Children’s Long Covid Network Their strength. Their journey. Our responsibility.” The French translation of this text is directly below. The computer screen sits on a background featuring a navy and teal gradient. There are blue-toned dots scattered across the background.
Last fall, the Children’s Long Covid Network launched a petition calling on the federal government to take action for children living with Long Covid. Learn more, and add your name to those calling for action: chng.it/7ZSzLXnp5n

Congrats to the Liberals for being within an arm's length of achieving their years-long goal of destroying Canada's post office.
Why was this their goal? Hard to say. But the destruction of this public service does benefit some private corporations. So. Come to your own conclusions.
Ever wonder why most of the media provide wall-to-wall coverage of everything the far right does or says, while ignoring far bigger rallies and events and far more interesting discussions elsewhere on the political spectrum?
There's no mystery. It's because they want the far right to triumph.
‘Rowling has been rich enough to pour cash into organizations like this for some time now because she continues to hold primary intellectual property rights to the entire Harry Potter franchise.’
Can’t separate art from artist when the artist is using their royalties to eradicate trans people.
Lewis: “Our NDP has a different offer for this country. Our plan is to Trump-proof the economy by investing massively in Canadian economic independence using the unmatched power of public ownership.”
“A network of public providers for food, phones, and internet. A public housing developer.”
It's wild to me how many intelligent people are saying the NDP just chose "extremism."
I dunno, man. Maybe watching the world order and the social safety net crumble over the last six years has made me an extremist, too but wanting to meet people's basic needs is literally what socialism is?
important to remember that Canada's pundits are absolute dingdong dipshits who worship the ruling class, they're status quorriors
A view of downtown Vancouver from the 24th floor. Layers of the glass windows of skyscrapers give way to a view of the water and mountains in the distance.
Nice view today in #Vancouver.
No one is protesting Palantir in Canada, even though the OPP has been using it for years, and the federal government is using it too.
The Prez of Palantir Canada is our former ambassador to the US, and he chairs the company building the "spa" at Ontario Place.

The nearly total absence of OH&S regulation in health care facilities meant respiratory protection required anywhere else was not available.
Carney is aggressively reshaping Canada via his DOGE-style gutting of the government, mass deportations, stripping of environmental and labour laws, unfettered extraction, and extreme industrial militarization.
Ignorant USians should stop pretending they have a hot clue about other countries.
Countries banning all teenagers from social media because "their brains aren't developed enough to handle it", meanwhile nobody's talking about the percentage of retirement-aged adults who have irreversibly cooked their fucking brains on Facebook since 2020.
This is why I say regulation is the compromise position
“Removing access to one of the most evidence-based, proven tools available to reduce preventable drug-related deaths and injuries is a reckless choice with clear consequences: more needless suffering.”

When people say “housing is not affordable” they often don’t mean that they can’t afford their current housing.
Instead they mean that they can’t afford to achieve their preferred living arrangements in reasonable proximity to jobs and amenities they value.
We need measures that capture that.

I've build DOOM in CSS and every wall, floor, barrel, and imp is a div, positioned in 3D space using CSS transforms.

Try it out! But... not every browser can handle it. This is taking the browser to its limit. Chrome has some issues. Safari too. Bugs will be filed.
This is finally out.
Very short take home. All the variation in spike that produced the immune escape characteristics of Omicron can occur in one single persistently infected individual over the period of a year.
This is why persistent infections matter

We finally started to deal with this problem under Biden and now Trump is undoing all of it. By the time Trump is finally gone it will be too late. What an unbelievably destructive man.
Covid can still kill you.
Covid can make it easier for other things to kill you.
Just because it doesn’t kill you right away doesn’t mean it won’t kill you or contribute to killing you.
Covid kills.
Long covid kills.
Immune damage kills.
Chronic inflammation kills.

I want it on record that anytime I post a bunch of depressing political stuff the message isn’t that we’re doomed it’s that there are countless opportunities to act against something doing harm.
We’re only doomed if individuals don’t take those opportunities.
A chart labeled "it's just allergies. are you sure?" The chart shows that cough, sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, headache, and fatigue are possible allergy symptoms. These symptoms in addition to fever, body aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are probably a different virus, and you should stay home and call your doctor. These symptoms plus fainting and confusion (sudden, and more than your usual level of confusion) are a medical emergency and you should call 911.
The pollen has landed 🙃, which means “it’s just allergies” season is upon us. Unfortunately, allergies share symptoms with multiple viruses, so be sure to know the symptoms, and know when to treat for allergies vs when it’s something more!
🙌 Good to see mainstream acknowledgement that viruses cause long-term health issues
"we are beginning to realize that there is this whole world out there that we had absolutely no insight into.”

There’s a political push for more water-guzzling AI data centres in Canada.
And uh, it looks like - at least in Alberta - they’re planning to plop most of them in high water stress areas.
For @nationalobserver.com, let’s cover @rorywh.bsky.social and @natashabulowski.bsky.social’s scary findings:
