Reminder that measles is one of the most contagious viruses in existence. Just one infected person can spread the respiratory virus to 90% of non-immune people in the same room. Oh, and it's airborne and can live in the air for two hours. Masking in public settings can protect you.

A deadly bacterial disease is returning, doctors warn, as vaccination rates fall Hib once killed 1,000 children a year, permanently disabling many more. Doctors who've never seen the disease say the comeback is changing the way they practice medicine.

“The last night I was a pediatric resident, a child came in with Hib and promptly died by the next day. I didn’t work for 50 years to have everything destroyed by one man.”

-Dr. Kathryn Edwards, Vanderbilt University

Is Canada Post ending home delivery? In a press release Monday, Canada Post said it is going ahead with a broad restructuring mandated by the federal government.

Congrats to the Liberals for being within an arm's length of achieving their years-long goal of destroying Canada's post office.
Why was this their goal? Hard to say. But the destruction of this public service does benefit some private corporations. So. Come to your own conclusions.

Ever wonder why most of the media provide wall-to-wall coverage of everything the far right does or says, while ignoring far bigger rallies and events and far more interesting discussions elsewhere on the political spectrum?
There's no mystery. It's because they want the far right to triumph.

It's wild to me how many intelligent people are saying the NDP just chose "extremism."

I dunno, man. Maybe watching the world order and the social safety net crumble over the last six years has made me an extremist, too but wanting to meet people's basic needs is literally what socialism is?

New York City hospitals drop Palantir as controversial AI firm expands in UK The decision follows activist pressure as Palantir faces growing scrutiny over NHS and UK government deals

No one is protesting Palantir in Canada, even though the OPP has been using it for years, and the federal government is using it too.

The Prez of Palantir Canada is our former ambassador to the US, and he chairs the company building the "spa" at Ontario Place.

The nearly total absence of OH&S regulation in health care facilities meant respiratory protection required anywhere else was not available.

Carney is aggressively reshaping Canada via his DOGE-style gutting of the government, mass deportations, stripping of environmental and labour laws, unfettered extraction, and extreme industrial militarization.

Ignorant USians should stop pretending they have a hot clue about other countries.

When people say “housing is not affordable” they often don’t mean that they can’t afford their current housing.
Instead they mean that they can’t afford to achieve their preferred living arrangements in reasonable proximity to jobs and amenities they value.
We need measures that capture that.

This is finally out.

Very short take home. All the variation in spike that produced the immune escape characteristics of Omicron can occur in one single persistently infected individual over the period of a year.

This is why persistent infections matter

Getting COVID Again Is More Dangerous Than Most People Realize—Here’s What To Know Doctors share why it’s still important to take the virus seriously.

Covid can still kill you.
Covid can make it easier for other things to kill you.
Just because it doesn’t kill you right away doesn’t mean it won’t kill you or contribute to killing you.
Covid kills.
Long covid kills.
Immune damage kills.
Chronic inflammation kills.

I want it on record that anytime I post a bunch of depressing political stuff the message isn’t that we’re doomed it’s that there are countless opportunities to act against something doing harm.

We’re only doomed if individuals don’t take those opportunities.

A chart labeled "it's just allergies. are you sure?" The chart shows that cough, sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, headache, and fatigue are possible allergy symptoms. These symptoms in addition to fever, body aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are probably a different virus, and you should stay home and call your doctor. These symptoms plus fainting and confusion (sudden, and more than your usual level of confusion) are a medical emergency and you should call 911.

The pollen has landed 🙃, which means “it’s just allergies” season is upon us. Unfortunately, allergies share symptoms with multiple viruses, so be sure to know the symptoms, and know when to treat for allergies vs when it’s something more!
