Thank you, @stevebrusatte.bsky.social, for recommending The Last Days of the Dinosaurs!
“[T] latest and most engaging glimpse at what it would have been like to experience the carnage. In doing so, Black pioneered a new genre of narrative prehistorical nonfiction.” 🦖 ☄️ 🌱 🐆
according to studies from those countries, yes, it absolutely is.

The undisputed #1 greatest photo of a person with a fossil:
Paleontologist Altangerel Perle, with the Museum of Natural History in Ulan Bataar, Mongolia, stands between the forearms of Deinocheirus
something that wrinkles my brain every time I remember it is the fact that total eclipses are only possible on earth because the moon and sun appear to be the same size in our sky, due to the insanely, astronomically unlikely fluke that the moon is 400x smaller than the sun but 400x closer to us.

Illustration of a Utahraptor, a large bulky dromaeosaur with a chunky head, deep belly, thick hindlegs and long tail. It is covered in a coat of coarse feathers, including pinnate wings on the arms. It has a dark crown, white supercilium, red irises, dark auriculars, and a cream "mane" of longer neck hackles, then a dark back and tail. It is posed as if looking to the side and down slightly while walking at a 3/4 angle toward the viewer, one foot raised.
Utahraptor for today's #DrawDinosDaily. These guys feel so much like the Cretaceous equivalent of a lion to me - big, powerful, and fast.

I’m cool I’m fine I just realized that there were probably already dinosaur fossils underfoot during the Cretaceous
Self reminder. Sharpen bat'leth.

Captured in bright indoor lighting before a hessian pin board, a Great Horned Owl with wide-eyes and wet-plumage is cloaked in a white cloth. Spiked feathers radiate from his head in all directions, like a hairy durian, accentuating his look of shock and indignation. We may have found the true paragon of Owls in Towels.

(CPHNAM VT 1600).

This Day in Labor History: February 8, 1887. President Grover Cleveland signed the Dawes Act into law, creating a process to split up Indian reservations in order to create individual parcels of land and then sell the remainder off to white settlers. Let's talk ideas of work & the American genocide!
A colored digital drawing of Haolong, a stocky ornithopod dinosaur, standing on all fours with his head raised and beak opened, apparently calling out. The dinosaur is covered in a mosaic of small scales, sharp spines and large plate-like scales.
Spiny little friend.
A quick doodle of Haolong dongi, a newly described ornithopod from China with... spikes. Numerous sharp spines grew from the animal's neck and back, seemingly different from all other known dinosaur integuments. Definitely wasn't on my bingo card for 2026 dinosaur finds!

Black and white photograph of Emmy Noether. She is standing just behind an ornate chair, wearing a white striped blouse with puffy shoulders, a fluffy bow at her neck, and a heavy long skirt cinched with a belt. Her dark hair is pulled back and she is looking a bit to the photographer's right.
Felix Klein lectured “On Hilbert’s first note on the foundations of physics" at the Mathematical Society of Göttingen #OTD in 1918. He included excerpts from letters in which he and Hilbert give priority to Emmy Noether’s results on conservation of energy in general relativity. (1/n) 🧪 ⚛️ 👩🔬

A shake-up of the dinosaur family tree! Rhabdodontids are not ornithopods. They are ceratopsians.
There were horned dinosaurs in Europe! As shown by a new fossil of Ajkaceratops from Hungary!
