Super excited to have been elected Secretary/ Treasurer of the newly established @amersoccriminology.bsky.social Division of Qualitative Research. I can't wait to serve the Division and help further qualitative research in criminology. 🥳

I don't take for granted that my father survived his tenure and retirement in policing, & I'm beyond grateful to help make improvements to their working environments. I've published a decent amount of work on the topic of officer wellness & I hope to continue on in this area. (2/)

Today is #NationalLawEnforcementSuicideAwarenessDay

I wrote this dedication for my dissertation in 2021. In the 4 years since, another 500 officers have died by suicide. It is for these individuals - these mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, friends - that I do this work. (1/)

When daycare works, it's LIFECHANGING.

When the little germs pass every low-risk but ridiculously contagious & annoying disease from one to another & I have to work from home without childcare unexpectedly, it makes me want to yeet myself into traffic.

👮‍♂️ Strong leadership
📈 Career development
What else should be on the list? #policing #crimjustice

Now that I’ve got my base website launched, I need to beef it up!

Add my speaking engagements (podcasts/webinars), & I want to add to it with blogging/substacks, short form videos with educational content, maybe the basis of a pending book. 👀👏🏼

#APB Spotlight Day 10!

Law enforcement suicide is a national crisis.

Research by @danslawrence.bsky.social, Jessica Dockstader, & @kepadil.bsky.social breaks down 977 officer deaths by suicide in the U.S. (2016–2022) and shows where, and among whom, the risk is highest. 🧵(1/4)

Having my research be included in a report like PERF about a topic I've devoted my career to is an absolute dream. Thank you Police Executive Research Forum for sharing the work done by @danslawrence.bsky.social Jessica Dockstader, CWP and I!

Asian women: 94 cents White women: 80 cents Black women: 66 cents Native and Latina women: 58 cents

Yesterday was #EqualPayDay and for every $1 white men make:

Asian women: 94 cents
White women: 80 cents
Black women: 66 cents
Native and Latina women: 58 cents

Women get paid less, but across racial lines the pay is even LOWER. This is #TheDoubleTax.

NEW study examining suicidal ideation among law enforcement officers. The big (not surprising) takeaway: improving mental health and responses to PTSD are critical aspects to preventing suicide among this population. More details in thread and links at the end.
