A tree showing the agencies under the Department of Homeland Security.
It includes ICE (broken down into Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO)), and Customs and Border Patrol (with its descendant organization Border Patrol).
Non DHS agencies that are sometimes involved include the FBI, DEA, and ATF.
These are the federal agencies detaining people across the US – mostly, but not all, under the umbrella of the Department of Homeland Security.

Staying warm when the power is out.
Visuals of a home floor plan and a person on a sofa highlight safety tips:
- Close blinds or curtains to keep in some heat
- Close off rooms to avoid wasting heat,
- Stuff towels or rags in cracks under doors
- Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing
- Eat and drink. Food provides energy to warm the body. Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
Power outages are certain for some, especially in areas where the heaviest ice will accumulate on trees and powerlines.
The cold can be deadly--but even without power, there are still ways to warm things up.

A CDC map of the United States shows estimated COVID-19 epidemic trends as of November 11, 2025. States are color-coded: dark purple for “Growing,” light purple for “Likely Growing,” gray for “Not Changing,” teal for “Likely Declining,” dark teal for “Declining,” and white for “Not Estimated.” Much of the Midwest, South, and Northeast are shaded in purple tones, indicating growing or likely growing COVID-19 spread. Western states show more teal, indicating declining trends. A box below the map summarizes national data: COVID-19 emergency-department visits are very low, and the national trend is “not changing,” with an Rₜ estimate of 1.01.
COVID-19: "As of November 11, 2025, we estimate that COVID-19 infections are growing or likely growing in 20 states, declining or likely declining in 9 states, and not changing in 18 states."

This is an artist's impression of ESA’s mission Plato, PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars, which will discover potentially habitable planets around stars similar to our Sun. The spacecraft is seen in space, studying a star system with four planets. The central star is also visible.
A #CosmicVision mission, #ESAPlato will use its 26 cameras to study terrestrial exoplanets in orbits up to the habitable zone of Sun-like stars.
Plato will revolutionise our understanding of how planets form, how planetary systems evolve & the potential habitability of these worlds.

Layoff notices at JPL are going out today.
About 11% of the Lab, or 550 people, are being let go.
I'm thinking of my friends and colleagues there, some of whom will still be employed after today and some of whom won't.
I'm sorry you're having to deal with this.
