This sweeping election reform bill is the result of years of negotiations between lawmakers and includes priorities of both Democrats and Republicans.

Ballot packets for the city election were mailed out to Anchorage voters today. Secure drop boxes around the city are opening this week for voters who would prefer to return their ballots that way.
Asked by Sen. Bill Wielechowski if she would release the legal advice from state lawyers, Elections Director Carol Beecher did not want to respond.
“I will be conferring with the Department of Law in regard to your question,” Beecher said.

RANKED CHOICE VOTING & OPEN PRIMARIES
reduce partisanship, encourage more candidates to run, boost voter turnout, take power away from special interests and out-of-state influence, and make it almost impossible for anyone to rig an election. (Santa Claus)

Mike Newcome candidate for Governor of Minnesota joins andrewyang.com/podcast to talk about what’s happening in the state, what the Minnesotans he talks to want to see and more.
Who is saying he'll drop out if Mary Peltola runs. All I'm saying is that I want Republicans to embrace RCV. And this kind of behavior by Democrats makes a repeal more likely.
I'd prefer a 3rd party or independent but if there are 12 Republicans and 1 Democrat, the odds are good that I would.
But their voters don't like to rank. The Democrats and Independents do. So we need those candidates to show how RCV can work, by giving voters more options and finding common ground. A party should want to have more than one viable candidate in the race.
And Republicans already are suspicious of RCV being a plot against them. Narrowing the field to 1 just adds credibility to their claim.
12 Republicans and 1 Democrat!?! Zero 3rd party or Independent, and the Dem is pledging to drop out to avoid Dem competition. This is the worst possible scenario.
Juneau is at least still thinking about it. Anchorage Assembly doesn't seem interested. We'll have to gather signatures to make it a ballot measure. www.ktoo.org/2025/10/30/d...
A group seeking to repeal Alaska’s ranked choice voting and open primary system says it has gathered enough signatures to put the repeal question on the 2026 ballot.
I hope to see it spread to the municipal level. Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau all considered it in 2025 but pushed it off. Embracing it in 2026 will show that it has momentum.
We need to win by a bigger margin each time for them to accept it. The Dems and Independents already like it, let's win over the Republicans this time.

Though the discussion on Thursday centered around ranked choice voting in state elections, the City and Borough of Juneau could soon be the first major Alaska city to adopt the system.
There are many Alaskans that need help right now. This is a great opportunity to help some people out, especially if you live in Anchorage.

Douglas Murray, a third-generation Juneau resident who’s lived here for 55 years, says he agrees with city leaders who say this year’s election is of relatively high importance — although his thoughts about why aren’t necessarily the same as theirs.

No Kings, also no Noble ruling class. Candidates for office are too often from the same families with the same connections to wealthy donors. There are great potential leaders all around us and we have the power to elect them.
