Purple sunflower star on eel grass at low tide
An orange sunflower star explores the eel grass. A group of people and one dog are visible exploring the beach in the background.
Saw a spectacular number of sunflower stars this weekend while tidepooling. ๐

A gray tortie named Harley sitting like a loaf wearing a taco outfit to keep her from licking her fur off. She is a rather thicc taco.
to be clear this is not just for torment it is a medical taco but regardless she will plot the death of her humans

A three panel photo of the desert paintbrush inflorescence in red, light orange and yellow.
From Wikipedia
This paintbrush is under half a meter in height and has bristly gray-green to purple-red herbage. It stands in a clump of erect stems, each topped with an inflorescence of somewhat tubular yellow green flowers. The flowers are encased in bright red to orange-red bracts, sometimes tinted with purple, and usually fuzzy with a thin coat of white hairs. The upper leaves and bracts are divided into 3โ5 segments, while the lower leaves are undivided, long, and narrow.

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

Mamdani hasn't had time to really think about all that space he now has, because he spends most of his time at City Hall and around New York City. He tries to keep a semblance of his old life by getting around the city on foot, by bike or train.
"If you spend every single day driving around in a tinted window security detail, you will have a very specific view of the city," he said. "You actually meet other New Yorkers and you break out of the bubble that so many have come to expect of politics, where politicians only seem to be spending time with other politicians or the people who donated to make them politicians."
I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example.

Oakley on a walk on April 15, 2025
Viola spotted this lil beauty of a ruffed grouse from her lookout window. Nobody can go by without Viola knowing.
Snow clearing equipment is a common spring sight in Fairbanks. Oak, of course, has to supervise.
Our mailbox held together with bungee cords. This is yet another common sight in Fairbanks in springtime. Itโs quite uncommon that they make it through snowplow season unscathed.

Spring is finally starting to spring around here, though if the forecast is correct, we could be buried under snow again by the weekend.
