A kid lit illustration by Cindy Lozito of three kids drawing at an art table while one spaces out, imagining himself as a star in Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night
I have a folder on my phone called 'museum trips' with hundreds of photos I've taken from museums around the world. I love combing through it for inspiration in my #kidlitart pieces. This one in particular is inspired by what it felt like to see Starry Night at for the first time as a kid 🌠
a medieval style digital drawing of an androgynous brown-skinned knight on horseback on a hill, stabbing a long gold spear into a blue dragon on the ground. the knight has a gold halo behind their head and wears a suit of silver armor with a nonbinary flag striped tunic and a trans flag as a cape. their horse is white, with blue tack with trans pride trim. there is black gothic text at the top and bottom of the image reading “A world without trans people has never existed and never will.” there’s an ornate pale blue border around the image, filled with pink and blue scrollwork, gold hearts filled with colorful flowers, a smiley bat, two smiley moles, and two smiling frogs holding up trans flags.

A gray smiling bipedal wolf offering candies to four trick or treaters. The first one is dressed as Luigi from Super Mario Bros. and she is scared surprised. The second one is dressed as a ghost and he is smiling and amazed. The third one is dressed as Frankenstein, he is also scared. The fourth one is dressed as a witch princess and she is slowly walking backwards.

Three generations of women dance plena through a cultural education center which has Puerto Rican vejigante masks and children’s watercolor artwork on its walls
Happy #kidlitartpostcard day! This one is inspired by Puerto Rican heritage and learning family traditions (in this case, plena dancing!) I would love to work on another Latinx picture book for my next project. I’m repped by @litagentsaritza.bsky.social at ABLA, more art @ cindylozito.com
Cartoon illustration showing a classroom display titled “Our Favourite Picture Book” with drawings of a cat character. The text on the poster reads “By John Writer. Our class has drawn his character!” Two children say, “We love John Writer!” and “His cats are so cute!” Beside the display, a woman labeled “Jane Illustrator, feeling miffed” thinks, “But… John Writer didn’t decide how this character would look… I did!” Caption at the bottom reads “#PicturesMeanBusiness Sarah McIntyre.”
Teachers: Please name the illustrator when you read to students. Discuss the art. Invite illustrators to visit. Show next generation that art in book was created by a HUMAN, that their work matters. www.picturesmeanbusiness.com/teachers/

I designed and helped paint a giant mural for an urban farm in North Philly this summer, so naturally I had to make a #kidlitart piece inspired by farming in cities, too! #kidlitpostcard

Comic book writers are lovely, creative, collaborative people! With great vision! But I cannot stress enough these projects cannot exist without artistic skill and visual narrative practice bringing the story to life. And time. It takes time. It takes more hours of an artist's life to create a book.

Sooo beautiful!
Happy #hourlycomicsday! I’ve been trying to do a short comic everyday in winter, so I do love the smudgy bad day comic sitting right on top of today’s new one 😂
