In the background the Eileanar Enclave (Karsus' enclave) plummets to the ground as Lord Karsus, the greatest Netherese archmage to ever live, casts his infamous Avatar spell to try to harness the power of Mystryl, goddess of magic at that time, and of the Weave itself. To stop his disastroust attempt, Mystryl sacrifices herself by Wishing herself out of existence, using Zeno, one of her Chosen, as a conduit to do so, draining a massive portion of his life energy to achieve the feat. Dethorth's reins are broken, a metaphor for Zeno losing his will as he's being used by the Goddess. The white/blue beacon coming from the city is Karsus' Palace, the Karsus's Avatar spell being the source of the light, and a little bit to the right, a huge explosion havocs the city as the two mythallars keeping the city afloat detonate.
