The schematic diagram compares traditional versus precision medicine approaches to the treatment of FSGS. By categorizing FSGS into subtypes based on non-invasive molecular and genetic profiling, precision medicine enables initiation of disease modifying therapy that targets the injury pathway activated in an individual patient together with non-specific renoprotective drugs. This combined treatment regimen will increase the likelihood of a treatment response and achieve improved kidney health outcomes compared to sequential prescription of renoprotective agents followed by empirical immunosuppressive therapy (IST).
