The Fanfare Around the Band Geese Actually Was a Psyop The Brooklyn band Geese was labeled an “industry plant” by those who questioned its sudden ubiquity. Maybe it was.

I got a bunch of pitches last year about how Geese cracked the algorithm—well, surprise, it was a "narrative" marketing campaign. @johnsemley3000.bsky.social with the goods: www.wired.com/story/geese-...

I wear a helmet. I recommend other people wear helmets. But helmets are not a solution for unsafe infrastructure. That's why so many of us get mad at finger wagging comments about helmets. It hides the real risks to cyclists. Cycling at low speeds is very safe! It's the cars that make it dangerous.

César Chávez’s shadow Revelations that César Chávez sexually abused young girls and women has set off a bomb in Latino communities and movement spaces

This excellent and powerful personal essay by @tinavasquez.bsky.social asks: how do we grapple with César Chávez's true legacy? Is it possible, necessary, or correct to erase him?

Why Has the US Banned Foreign-Made Routers? The FCC just banned the sale of new consumer-grade Wi-Fi routers manufactured outside the US. Here’s what it means for you.

You probably have a lot of questions about whether or not your home Wi-Fi router is suddenly illegal. (It's not.) But the issue is complex, and @simon-hill.bsky.social takes us through it:

A Billionaire-Backed Startup Wants to Grow 'Organ Sacks' to Replace Animal Testing R3 Bio has a bold idea for replacing lab animals: genetically-engineered whole organ systems that lack a brain. The long-term goal, says a cofounder, is to make human versions.

“If we can create a nonsentient, headless bodyoid for a human being, that will be a great source of organs.” cool cool cool

ChatGPT’s ‘Adult Mode’ Could Spark a New Era of Intimate Surveillance OpenAI plans to allow sexting with ChatGPT. A human-AI interaction expert warns of a privacy nightmare.

“People have to be very aware that there’s a surveillance aspect to the data,” says one expert. “You're sharing your most intimate sexual thoughts because you're lost in the moment.”

New from me for @wired.com on the privacy nightmares of ChatGPT smut.
