Death being forcibly retired and how he tries to live as a mortal is a great story by itself. Windle Poons trying to resolve the problem of not dying is a great story by itself. One book has both those stories! Plus the comedy caused by excess life force! And it WORKS.
Absolute literary genius.

A number of Terry's characters develop like that. Besides Death, Detritus the Troll is a notable example.
YAY!
Trust me on this, you'll want to read it again; you'll notice different amazing details each time. You can't do that if you don't read it the first time.
Windle Poons after he died (and then realized he hadn't died) is a very different person from Windle Poons when he was waiting to die. He's one of Terry's most brilliant characterizations, and I love him.
The only reason to be scared to start reading Mort is that once you've finished it, you'll no longer be able to read it for the first time.

Weβre applying for a geoscience outreach award. We need nomination letters.
Are you someone working in geoscience education or outreach, think Mineral Cup is worthy, and are willing to write us kind words by May 22?
Please drop a note to hastagmincup@gmail.com for details.
Thank you!

It didn't rain *because* you wore the raincoat. That's how it works.
Wow!
My very own conspiracy theory: Cable channels that used to be more or less educational, like The History Channel, the Travel Channel, and Bravo, were taken over and converted to all pseudofacts all the time deliberately to dumb down the American people some more.

These people aren't just making Richard Nixon's administration look good. They're making Ronald Reagan's administration look good.

Bilingual signs. The first word is English, the second is French. (I don't know if this is true, but it should be π)
If they could make tracer lights at the ends of the swords, couldn't they have gone all the way and made the swords look like light sabers?
The deserving are always shocked to find out that as far as the king is concerned, they are really the undeserving.
Wait, what? There's a Hallmark Channel movie that's about a woman finding romance in a big city? Not a small town? Radical!
I'm only surprised that Rum didn't figure it out first. That boy is ungovernable.
If you see this, post something orange from your gallery.
I've known a lot of people who get hostile when they find out I don't do something they do. I think it's because they take your disinterest or objection as a criticism of their personal choices.

βForget you were ever Polly. Think young male, that was the thing. Fart loudly and with self-satisfaction at a job well done, walk like a puppet thatβd had a couple of random strings cut, never hug anyone, and, if you meet a friend, punch them.β
"What doin', weird lady?"
If it doesn't have a happy ending (for "whatever got broken gets put back together like the Nac Mac Feegle worked on it" values of "happy"), Terry is going to HAUNT everybody involved.
tl;dr "I am a dangerous megalomaniac."
I always have mixed feelings when great new developments in treating or even curing cancer are announced. I've lost too many of my most beloved friends to cancer, but I'm happy for the people who may be saved.

50 years ago today, April 18, 1976:
At the 30th Annual Tony Awards in New York City, A CHORUS LINE won 9 awards. It is tied for the 4th highest number of Tony wins for a musical in Broadway history. Donna McKechnie (Best Actress) and Kelly Bishop (Best Featured Actress) were among the winners.
And childless couples aren't a family, either.
