Very expensive for RSE workers Luxon wants to bring here in their 1000's to increase our productivity. Half a days wages for really hard work already for smokes. If tobacco tax increases for Willis and Luxon's bougie tax cuts will be half a weeks wages for RSE.

Tax cuts will be. I guess it depends on the type of govt spending. Covid relief payments to businesses probably were but we came out of covid with some of the best economic metrics in the OECD. More importantly, how is it OK to be austere with people in need and still give tax cuts?

Seymour is an arrogant prick with bugger all real life experience before joining RW Canadian think tank. He puffed on 100 Peter Stuyvesant ciggies a day while plotting his rise as Libertarian politician with Tim Jago Act party chairman for last decade.

Shane Reti knows this. Vaping is dangerous. Aussie public health researchers have figured this out. Why hasn't Dr Shane from Harvard??

Difference between Seymour and Peters is quite simply David Seymour would never have been turned down looking as Pakeha as he does for a decent flat in a nice, leafy suburb near University. Winston had added expenses.and baggage. Taihoa on the harsh judgements.

Real Academic freedom is #goneburger. The libertarian creeping fascist state of Zealandia has taken hold. If commentary has to be 100% safe before academics risk criticism of David Seymour and his multiplicity of bullying & vexatious FOI requests via @TPU academic freedom is well & truly buggered.

On the issue of academic freedom, Wiles' team called Jack Heinemann as their expert witness. I thought Heinemann's argument was sound: university policies need to be consistent with academic freedom rather than constructed in opposition to it in some sort of balancing exercise.

Seymour way more dangerous than Winston. Luxon from The Upper Room trumps them all. Time MSM woke up..

That fits venal Seymour and Luxon more than Peters.

it's going to be so great and normal having grumpy uncle Winston Peters, high on conspiracy-theory supply, representing us on the international stage. so great. so normal. definitely not cringe at all.

Shane Reti trying to defend the undefendable. Sacrificing lives because dairy owners have concerns and "some" submitters who he claim to not remember who they were said there will be a black market. So policy by vibes?

As Cabinet revs up, building plans go on hold Reversal of Three Waters, Kainga Ora freeze, scramble for tax-cut cash & councils going on investment strike are set to stall new housing developments, just as migrant arrivals surge over 200,000

There seems to be a frenzy of action in Wellington. The trouble is planners and funders of infrastructure everywhere else are now on hold, possibly for years. open.substack.com/pub/thekaka/...

Bernard Hickey added to this with his Kaka post this morning. Worth reading. Willis is sentencing young Māori women in particular to lifetime of suffering. This is tragic policy. Coalition is a disaster already.Shane Reti should be feeling whakama for rest of his term.

Now sworn in, new Govt turns attention to tax package There's a lot for the newly-sworn in Government to do, but finalising the promised tax cuts and repealing the RMA reforms, Three Waters and Fair Pay Agreements top the list.

The Government's big focus for the next few weeks is getting its tax package to add up.

Revenue from reversing Smokefree changes, cancelling a Working for Families boost and keeping the 'App Tax' still doesn't make it break even.

Foreign buyers did that in 2013. Ling Hai sale went through quietly. Seabed and Foreshore gifted back in a hurry.. Key Gov not exactly transparent.

Social co-op housing was a US union led initiative. It meant nurses and Dr's could afford to pay rent and live and work in the communities they served. There's a lot to be learnt from local knowledge.

Question still in play...I pay a subscription to get facts from Richard Harman. What are the new powers he hinted at that select committees get under Luxon's coalition? Can any select committee simply decide Te Tiriti has no legal standing in 2024?
