And in fact Republican states like Utah and Ohio have retained their gerrymanders in open defiance of successful referendums demanding non-partisan redistricting

1 day ago 892 164 6 3

A reminder while Republicans bitch about Dems finishing the redistricting fight they started: they have full control of gov’t— they can pass a law banning gerrymandering any time they want. They won’t. Republicans aren’t mad gerrymandering exists; they’re mad that they’re not the only ones using it.

I did it a couple years ago, I would say definitely make sure you’re comfortable with the doctor giving it, mine was great. I don’t know how big a difference it made in my mental health in the end but I do think it was a positive experience that did help me in some ways. Hope all goes well!

Not to make light of this tragedy, but if this had happened to a movie character they would have quit and become an alcoholic to mask their deep remorse. This dude just appears to be out there living his life, though who knows I guess. I would be too haunted to go be a cop still.

I have only read the article and realize there are many facts I do not know. This happened, I assume, because he missed (at a time he shouldn’t have been shooting). But even if that’s not criminal, I would argue that MISSING AND HITTING A LITTLE GIRL IN THE HEAD should still ruin your sniper career.

Aka one of those trucks where I immediately judge you if I see you driving it through suburbia, and not in the way you’re hoping.

Thanks to Spouse for helping me fit a week’s worth of stuff into a backpack because to have any carry-on on my Frontier flight is 80 bucks each way. It would have been cheaper just to mail my stuff there but I didn’t think of that soon enough. They were still cheapest by hundreds of dollars. ✈️

It’s inaccurate to say Mario is brave and Luigi is cowardly

Luigi is afraid of death, so he runs away from danger. Mario is afraid of living, so he runs towards death. Both brothers are cowards in their own way

A still of Clint Eastwood in his lone gunman role in A Fistful of Dollars (1964)

A still of Clint Eastwood in his lone gunman role in A Fistful of Dollars (1964)

A Fistful of Dollars (1964) Not the best but perhaps the seminal "Spaghetti Western." Clint Eastwood plays the taciturn gunman playing two factions against each other in his first starring role. A rip-off of Kurosawa's Yojimbo to the degree they ended up paying him part of the profits. #Filmsky 📽️

A still of stars Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi in Super Mario Bros. (1993)

Super Mario Bros. (1993) Our latest Terrible Movie is this prior live-action attempt at a Mario movie that became one of most notorious disasters of its era. It is baffling from beginning to end. Bob Hoskins plays Mario with a broad Brooklyn accent while John Leguizamo plays Luigi. #Filmsky 📽️

A still of Marlene Dietrich and boytoy in The Devil Is a Woman (1935)

A still of Marlene Dietrich and boytoy in The Devil Is a Woman (1935)

The Devil Is a Woman (1935) Josef von Sternberg directs Marlene Dietrich gleefully playing the woman incels accuse all women of being. She plays the beautiful Concha, who toys with multiple men in circa-1900 Spain. She also sings a couple songs and wears some great over-the-top costumes. #Filmsky 📽️

A still of stars Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan (or possibly their stunt doubles) in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) Heavily influenced by the paranoid political thrillers of the 1970s, this is still a popular pick for the best movie Marvel's produced. Chris Evans' star spangled hero fights evildoers who have infiltrated SHIELD. Robert Redford is even in this. #Filmsky 📽️

Several members of my family have had skin cancer and my parents were thus extremely diligent about making sure I was slathered in sunblock at all times when going outside. But who's to say whose parents were right? I guess we'll never know.

I've been so swamped this week I've gotten several days behind in writing up the movies I've watched. I'm still swamped but I can't deal with that right now, so I'm going to try to do some catch up instead. #filmsky 📽️

Anyway Marlene Dietrich in this movie is the lady incels accuse all women of being. I think at the time it played as this empowered woman with agency and now it feels wildly misogynistic.

Those predicting AI won’t really cost that many jobs have drastically underestimated the willingness of corporations to make their products extremely shitty if it saves them the money they would have had to pay people to actually do stuff correctly.

These are real lawyers who decided that the best argument was “congress can never delegate any powers at all and must pass every little rule about public land individually.”

You would only do this today in a very broad comedy or Drunk History or something. But I do think it makes just as much sense, if you’re not going to just do it in Spanish, to just do it this way instead of everyone speaking Spanish-accented English or, worse, vaguely British accents.

Have The Devil Is a Woman (1936) on in the bag while I do chores. I would be interested in a history of accents in Hollywood films. This movie is set in Spain circa 1900 and everyone is just using regular contemporary American accents (except for Dietrich of course). Wonder when that changed?
