This guy swooped over our path, yesterday. Perched about fifteen feet away, completely unbothered and staring at one another for twenty minutes.
You taught me how to play cards and drive a stick. To cut class and bike to the lake and sit in the sun, skipping stones with a cigar and a beer and tell a million good stories.
You taught me how to hear music and think about film and talk about painting. To enjoy life, be present, and grow more comfortable with the world beyond my own head. And to show strength and take good care of those close.
You were far too young for the wisdoms you shared, and far younger still for the weight of the struggles you carried. Ours was one of my oldest and most treasured friendships. You were loved. You will be missed. Rest in peace, my dear friend.
