Scientists at Ningaloo Reef saw a male whale shark give a female a love bite - a clue to how these giants find a mate. With males outnumbering females 3:1, this discovery is key to their conservation.

It’s not just Ningaloo. Corals along half of WA’s coastline are experiencing the same fate.
While recovery is possible if waters cool, the reality is stark: the full impact won’t be known for months, and some corals may not survive.
This is Ningaloo Reef – once full of life, now ghostly white. For the first time on record, deep corals are bleaching due to an unprecedented marine heatwave. This is what extreme heat stress looks like.
