"Waymo has told advocates that expecting it to respect bike lanes is 'too high a bar' because customers expect to be dropped off in them."
To be crystal clear, it's illegal for a car to be in a bike lane. It doesn't matter what Waymo's customers expect; the company shouldn't be doing it.

There's an app called Surf that lets you choose to entirely ignore politics, maybe take a nice respite.
The Flipboard team built it as a way to browse the decentralized world.
It's still in beta, but you might want to get on the waitlist. I really like the trending searches feed.
Seattle mayor when?
Love it when malicious compliance leads to harsh punishments that give consumers what they should've had all along ❤️
Seattle City Council is so unserious.
Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

Rainbow afternoon in Seattle.
I saw this last night and there are so many worse and scarier things happening but I don't think my brain is ever going to work again after seeing this. I think it's done.
@surf.social just keeps getting better. I love the recent updates. The Android experience is no longer janky. Thank you

Imagine "putting a lot of thought" into how you show off your tech, and the best you can do is "look at this artist who hates us whose work we're going to blatantly steal" instead of all the countless positive ways your technology could be used.

2. The way #atproto lowers barriers to developers of middle-tier solutions via lexicons/appviews is so powerful/unique. Account/data portability is just part of the magic!
I'm proud and excited to be part of a team working hard to bring #atproto benefits to a wider audience via @surf.social

#ATmosphereConf was the most informative and inspiring conference I've ever attended.
A couple of initial takeaways:
1. (obvious, but super-reinforced) The community is driven by deeply positive goals and empowered with hard-won lessons that apply to every community type and size imaginable.

@wang.social’s message at #ATmosphereConf is that we went from bandwidth scarcity to attention scarcity is enlightening.
Optimism of the early web and the pessimism of the consolidating web. “Society has come to reflect the dominant form of technology”. You might have a chance to alter the course of history if you work hard enough. @jay.bsky.team’s talk at #atmosphereconf @bsky.app
