Important (but potentially not that surprising) new research on quality of housing and school abscences. Efforts to improve social mobility can't just look at what's happening in schools - they need to look at the wider circumstances a child is growing up in:

Many people experiencing mental ill health are trapped in cycles of worsening social exclusion. This article, 'Moving beyond Individual Placement and Support (IPS): person-centred approach to social inclusion and mental health', discusses this further.

While almost all observers agree that social security in the UK isn't working as it should be, it's essential that any reforms are grounded in high-quality research evidence and listen to the voices of those most impacted: www.kcl.ac.uk/news/spotlig...

New research led by the University of Greenwich in collaboration with IoPPN + @kingscsmh.bsky.social suggests although overall time spent online is linked with higher levels of loneliness, use of social media platforms may not be. #SocialMedia #Psychology
‘Loneliness’ is a modern word – but we have a lot to learn from how early modern nuns understood solitude.
'The UK has a lot of people out of work because of mental illness – but listening to those affected reveals that’s rarely the whole story'

Workplace loneliness isn’t just interpersonal, it’s shaped by organisational culture and societal context
To reduce loneliness + its impact on workers health, we need to go beyond encouraging office social events + tackle the institutional + societal drivers of loneliness 🏨🌏🧑🤝🧑
Many workers described their loneliness as a yearning for meaningful connection with colleagues
But for some workers, loneliness was also about feeling undervalued and disconnected from their organisation or feeling their job wasn’t valued or understood by society at large
Loneliness costs UK employers £2.5B a year (@neweconomics.bsky.social), but few studies have explored what it feels like to be lonely at work
We explored lived experiences of UK-based workers thru qualitative interviews to develop an evidence-based conceptualisation of workplace loneliness 💬💭
Is workplace loneliness just about feeling isolated from colleagues, or is there more to it?👨⚕️👷♀️
In our new paper in SPPE, we found that workplace loneliness goes beyond work relationships + can include disconnection from one’s organisation + society at large🧵
