These serious injuries, possibly caused by a dog attack, led the specialist to recommend euthanasia as the most compassionate option to avoid more suffering. This case is not an isolated event. Habitat loss due to deforestation is exposing these primates to increasing dangers.

A series of three photos taken in lion-tailed macaques' shrinking habitat in India. The first two show animals eating food offered by humans in passing cars on a roadway. A third shows a macaque dead in the road. By encouraging animals to hang out on the road and eat human food, drivers contribute to their decline. It is the rare academic article with images that alone convey a conclusion. "Increasing Food Provisioning and Habituation Threaten the Endangered Lion-Tailed Macaque" (November 2024 Primate Conservation @peopleprimate.bsky.social) shows why you should never feed the monkeys. #primates

‼️If you find injured wildlife, follow the examples above: stay calm, avoid interacting directly with the animal and report the case to the authorities. Every effort, accompanied by institutions like NPC, helps to protect the wildlife that enriches our environments. 🌳🦉✨

In another case, workers at a restaurant found an owl (𝘔𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘱𝘴 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘢) inside a disused oven. Upon notifying (ARA), we were able to rescue it and ensure the bird's recovery.

There's another, very good list of primate people that I did not know about when I made this. There's some crossover but there will be differences too! Check out this starter pack and please do send your suggestions for additions to the list!

Wild monkeys flake stone tools - Nature Wild capuchin monkeys in Brazil deliberately break stones, unintentionally producing flakes similar to the ancient sharp-edged flakes characterized as intentionally produced Pliocene–Pleistocene homin...

Now that @nature.com has joined us, here’s a #ThrowbackThursday to our study on wild capuchins deliberately breaking stones and making flakes.

I got lucky filming this activity, when I stayed behind while my team climbed a sandstone plateau. The monkeys turned up, and the rest is (pre)history 🧪🐒🏺

Primate Cruelty Exposed: Legal Victory Shows the Need for Ongoing Advocacy The convictions of Adriana Orme and Holly Le Gresley for their role in a monkey torture ring mark a victory for animal protection. Sentenced in the UK, they caused suffering to protected animals by commissioning and sharing videos of baby monkeys, mostly macaques, being brutally abused for online entertainment. These convictions highlight a growing issue of “monkey hatred” online. This blog explores the impact of this case and what must be done to stop primate abuse worldwide.

Blog @AsiaforAnimals & @Action4Primates looks at the significance of recent UK convictions of people involved in online #monkey torture rings, & the ongoing fueling of monkey cruelty & hatred by #socialmedia platforms: www.asiaforanimals.com/post/primate... @LadyFreethinker @jaan_indonesia

Monkeys Are Talking. Are We Listening? What They Teach Us About Our Planet’s Future Every rustle in the trees and every chatter from the treetops carries more than just sound, it carries a message. Monkeys, and primates in general, are some of the most intelligent and socially complex animals on Earth and are deeply connected to their environments. Their behaviors, habitats, and interactions with the ecosystem are not only fascinating but also serve as indicators of the state of our planet. As they navigate their forests, they’re telling us about the health of the world we all

To celebrate #worldmonkeyday, we've opened a BlueSky account!

Pictured here are just two of the monkey species on whose behalf we work - the San Martin titi monkey and the yellow-tailed woolly monkey, both endemic to a small part of Northern Peru.

It's great to be here!
