A tiny fierce demanding soul who ripped holes in a hoodie hung on the fence when the peanuts were late.
A funny furry personality silently climbing down the cedar to tease awake the sheepdog slumbering by the campfire.
I miss that spot,… the sheepdog, the solitude & the squirrel.

15 years ago, I arrived on the mid-Island in search of spring green. Found it in the forest in a campsite by the Little Qualicum River. A spot shared with a resident Douglas squirrel.
