Friendship takes many forms. "Acquaintance" doesn't feel like a strong enough word for the amount of unconditional love and support this community has shared, and we certainly aren't strangers to each other.

When I share your adventures or show your books to my family, I often refer to you as "my friend Blair from Twitter."

Our interactions have been limited, and we've never met in person, but what else can you call it when you've actively celebrated someone's wins and grieved their losses for years?

This community wouldn't exist if not for you, I truly believe that the kindness and compassion that found roots and grew among the #UglyDogs is a reflection of what you put in to the world. Whatever comes next for you, we have your back through it!

Even as you put your racing days behind you and move on to embrace a new chapter of your life, I hope you're doing so with the knowledge that you have made a mark which will never be forgotten.

The sum of all that you've accomplished isn't merely running races (though that is an incredible feat in and of itself). Your legacy will live on in the offspring of the dogs you've raised and whose lives you've touched. Your legacy will live on in every project funded by the #Igivearod.

Over the past decade you've built a community that made misfits feel welcome, and you inspired a love for this sport in a myriad of people who likely wouldn't have given dog sledding a second look if they hadn't had the privilege of getting to know your wonderfully charismatic team of athletes.

It's hard to believe your Iditarod run was 7 years ago.

Retired or not, the #UglyDogs will always be your pack and we'll always be rooting for your abundant success on any path you choose to take.

Thank you, my friend. I can barely handle both of my babies feeling unwell, and being so wiped out on funds from one that I can't afford to treat the other is breaking my heart. ❤️‍🩹

The first dose of Trazodone worked wonders, but every subsequent dose only seemed to make Maple more and more wired. Not good.

We called the vet back on Monday to ask about alternatives, and he prescribed us Gabapentin, which Maple has reacted much more favorably to!

I think the Trazodone is working.

Me too, it's really hard to see her uncomfortable and frustrated.

Unfortunately, Maple hasn't been coping with the anaesthesia or adjusting to crate rest as well as we had hoped.

She's been experiencing quite a bit of distress and restlessness, so her surgeon faxed us out a prescription for Trazodone today to help her settle during initial healing.

I have been reunited with my four-legged lampshade! Don’t mind her face, she’s uh… on the good stuff.

Maple has been dropped off at the vets, everyone cross their fingers and toes that she’s a good girl and things go smoothly.

These are the growths slated for removal. The veterinarian believes at least one of them is infected, which puts us on a bit of a time crunch.

Unfortunately, Maple had an incident last night in which she chewed off her largest papilloma, leaving a large, raw open wound in a sensitive area.

Today’s vet appointment only totalled $110.00 for the examination fee, but they want to see her again tomorrow for surgical removal.

Maple and several of her siblings all developed similar symptoms, which suggests they most likely contracted this condition from their dam.

The good news is, most of the puppies are well and truly on the mend, with their growths clearing up and falling off without any medical intervention.
