Plastics reconstruction/micro vascular work/neuro etc etc
So probably it does matter. Not always but it’s a decent goal to have.
I mean, have you ever done a prilocaine spinal with a surgeon who’s not used to the “motor block” differences compared to l-bupivicaine/glucose
What are the “parameters” of well? Fiscal responsibility with members/college funds? More accessibility? More efficient functioning? But very valid question
We definitely need to ask for more.
As a born and bred Londoner, I’m well aware of the transport links.
I struggle with the fact that there are other prestigious organisations/corporations that have bases outside of London.
I imagine there would be similar feelings wherever it was based - though I gather the population-weighted centroid of the UK is (or at least was) somewhere around Derby which would be nice.
I'd hope they could focus more on offerings to and representation of those outside the M25 though!

It is interesting that we are now back discussing an issue that was highlighted the last time we moved. This time however it is much easier for members to discuss like this. I watch with interest..Will this finally make the difference?
Perhaps a RCOALond and a RCOA that serves the rest? As I’m not sure people outside of London feel they get the best value/representation/understanding.
Again. Who is the college for, for the few of the many?
Goodness. Is “power” constrained by the M25 @rcoanews.bsky.social?
The way the consultation has been presented, it’s as if it wasn’t even a consideration to consider life outside the M25
I ended up leaving the RCoA for a number of reasons, one of which was what felt like a degree of London-centricity.
Completely. A move out isn’t on the cards. They’ve said they don’t use the building as it is, so what do they need?
They need to really address the question of what is the point of a grand college building. Nobody is using it and modern working practices have changed wildly.
As a member I’ve never felt the need to go the college building since drinks and nibbles after passing my FRCA. There’s rarely any events, my engagement with them can be completely remote. They will need a wholesale change it what they provide if we are to support this.
I confess I don’t recall the previous conversations/move. Other corporations/companies acknowledge a world outside of London. Why was it rejected last time?
I think, disappointingly that
the tone of the recent communication suggests a fait accompli.
And to keep it more lighthearted….I’m reminded of one of my favourite Xmas cartoons. Also a replay of the most listened to music of the year 😄. A definite theme!
Recent thoughts on this QT’d below.
The direction of travel with other medical Royal colleges (eg. the RCPLon) is to move stuff outside London, and there’s no way we’ll get a building that does everything we want we can afford in the capital.
Consultation open on the @rcoanews.bsky.social moving out of Red Lion Square.
By all means keep an address, a front office and a couple of meeting rooms in London, but surely the time has come to move the main college building to Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham?
Is it supposed to be for the membership? Any thoughts? @medicluke.bsky.social @sethina.bsky.social @doctorhelgi.bsky.social @lawtontri.bsky.social @leedsmedic.bsky.social @achakladar.bsky.social @cheapoflurane.bsky.social @andydrummond.bsky.social @drfreeze.bsky.social @drsas27.bsky.social
The consultation appears not to have considered this an option. Lots of other more accessible and affordable places - LEEDS/MANCHESTER/BIRMINGHAM. If it’s good enough for other massive corporations, why isn’t it a consideration for our college? It begs the question. WHO is the college building for?
As a born and bred Londoner (I’ve spent the majority of my life there), I’d love somebody from @rcoanews.bsky.social to explain why no apparent consideration was given to having the main buildings outside of London. Financial due diligence? Majority of members OUTSIDE of London?
Impressive dude.
My grandfather used to be quite the heartbreaker back in the 50s, great guy but a terrible cardiologist …
This is the content you signed up for. Deal with it
I’m here for it

Great bloke...
Terrible anaesthetist...
It depends on the device and infusion rate I’d have thought. Don’t fancy a small gauge PICC line but there are newer Central venous access devices which have ports designed to withstand this and avoid the “shearing” issues
Today marks 6 years since a special dog joined our family. He was two when he joined us. Ted is often called the “stupidest clever dog we know” but despite all the missing socks, laparotomies, bonkers food driven behaviour, I’d not be without him!
People of Bluesky. Let’s get to know each other better. What is your favourite movie?
