There is a theme to this year’s prom - travel and transport, with the usual crowd-pleaser sing-along pieces to finish 🎼🎵🎶
(Some of the transport connections may be a touch … tenuous … but it means we can pay some cracking music 😁)

A lovely afternoon, it was great to have a full audience, the singers were fabulous - and we’ve had excellent comments on the cakes too 😁
I have seen photos of some of the half-time cakes. They look good.
Here’s a link for buying tickets - we’d love to see you there!

‘As classical musicians we play a lot of music by dead European white men. Which is fine - they wrote a lot of good music. But it’s not what I was brought up on. So this is a little encore in honour of the music that’s in my foundations’
Doing Zanetto tonight with one of the singers who, in true professional style, carried on singing when her drink fell over. The sound of her voice disappearing down the corridor & reappearing with paper towels to mop up the spillage - still singing - was a thing of beauty. And also very funny #opera
We miss you! Thanks for the plug though 😘

Hello! We’re busy rehearsing for our next concert on Sunday 22nd March at 3pm - Sunnybank Mills in Farsley (where they film #SewingBee) - it’s a lovely mixture of pieces 🎼🎵🎶
Beethoven - Overture: Fidelio
Fauré - Suite: Pelléas et Mélisande
Mascagni - Zanetto
Manuel de Falla - Ritual Fire Dance
Rehearsing the Vaughan Williams with the soloist this evening, his name is Sam and he is wonderful.
The piece is coming together really well #TubaConcerto
Tonight’s first half was focused on the Vaughan Williams Tuba concerto.
Looking forward to rehearsing it with the soloist, it’s settling down nicely #MadRhythms
False advertising! We did the other two movements of the Dvorak instead!
A forest scene, advertising WYSO’s November concert. Info is in the post.
Here is a slightly dodgy (sorry about the flash!) photo of the concert flyer.
Mendelssohn Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture
Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto (soloist Sam Dodd)
Dvorak Symphony No8

Tonight’s first half has been fun, rehearsing the even mvts of the Dvorak; upping the tempo A Lot for the 4th, it’s all sounding very exciting (whooping horns! stormy strings!) so we’ll be calming down a bit after the break with some Mendelssohn 🎶🎵
Good evening!
Apologies for being rubbish at posting the last couple of weeks … we had sectionals - so the strings got to talk about bowings in peace and the winds went and had fun doing dectets 😁
(Brass had the night off)
Waiting to see what’s in store for the second half - the third movement is the trickiest!
We’ll be ready for the soloist soon - second movement sounding gorgeous #TubaConcerto
Rhythm games tonight while we wrestle with the VW Tuba Concerto.
The conductor is using 70s and 80s kids tv titles and the orchestra is very much split by age regarding what is going on 😂

Hello!
We are back for a new term, looking forward to getting our teeth into Dvorak 8, Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture and most exciting… a tuba concerto!
Concert day is the 22nd November 🎼🎶🎵
Looking from inside the castle walls, there is a path curving away towards the left of the picture. The wall has a large PROMS sign in in white letters.
A long shot of a large display screen on the left, in front of some large trees. To the right of the screen is a large tan-coloured tent/marquee, under which the orchestra are playing. The sky is blue with fluffy white clouds.
A photo looking over the top of the marquee, showing the Pride Flag fluttering magnificently in the (quite strong!) breeze.
Looking towards the walls opposite the first photo; there is a fenced off VIP area, comprising several picnic tables and some massive bean bags, each one a different colour, arranged in roughly rainbow order, with three vertical flagpoles flying small triangular pennants in rainbow order. In the foreground, sat on the grass with both arms in the air, is one of our lovely violists, Lindsay
A few photos from this afternoon before that gates open later #PontefractCastle
We are here at Pontefract Castle, and it is warm & dry (and quite breezy but that just means the flags look fantastic 😁)
Sound check & rehearsal in progress at the moment. #PromInTheCastle
Good morning!
Today’s concert day!
There are still a few tickets left, so if you’re free later on, why not come to Pontefract Castle?
There’ll be music (lots of music!) and fireworks 🎆
We’re really looking forward to it, it’s always a brilliant event 🎼🎶

Well, indeed.
And a very lovely Ben he is too 😊
