I remember the ruins of #PontefractCastle being a great venue for a 1988 promenade production of the Wakefield Mystery Plays, as adapted by Adrian Henri.
and sold to meet the cost of its destruction. Any remaining materials, to the value of £1,000, were assigned to the town of Pontefract, to fund repairs to its place of worship and the rebuilding of a house for a minister. See Alt for more details. #PontefractCastle #Yorkshire #Heritage #17thCentury
A mottled pink, purple, blue and orange sunrise over the remains of Pontefract Castle. The cobbled floor of the brewhouse is in the foreground, and remains of the stone keep in the background.
Rise and shine 🌄
This stunning sunrise was captured by our Site Officer Joe at Pontefract Castle!

Have you seen any spectacular sunrises or sunsets recently?

Looking from inside the castle walls, there is a path curving away towards the left of the picture. The wall has a large PROMS sign in in white letters.
A long shot of a large display screen on the left, in front of some large trees. To the right of the screen is a large tan-coloured tent/marquee, under which the orchestra are playing. The sky is blue with fluffy white clouds.
A photo looking over the top of the marquee, showing the Pride Flag fluttering magnificently in the (quite strong!) breeze.
Looking towards the walls opposite the first photo; there is a fenced off VIP area, comprising several picnic tables and some massive bean bags, each one a different colour, arranged in roughly rainbow order, with three vertical flagpoles flying small triangular pennants in rainbow order. In the foreground, sat on the grass with both arms in the air, is one of our lovely violists, Lindsay

Now, onto my top #ruins of the year! Popped to #Pontefract a few weeks ago and stumbled across the beautiful All Saints Church, a 1960s church snuggled in the ruins of a 14th/15th century church destroyed during the civil wars. Absolutely beautiful 😍
