It did a dozen hunting swoops from low perch to long grass in the 45 minutes I was watching it, but this is the only sequence I managed to keep in frame and in focus.

On another day that would definitely have described the heron, but I was actually referring to the stance needed to get this angle 😂 I didn't check for nettles because it's winter, but they're already growing back.

One toe in the stream, the other knee in a patch of nettles! 😂

Closest I've seen our local kingfisher get to a little egret - normally the KF loiters in the branches above the egret when they're both fishing the same spot. #birds #kingfishers

How can you tell? I think the orange on the lower bill is fading slightly since I first saw it, but I didn't get a clear picture then.

Probably a male juvenile kingfisher, from my local South London Park. There was a mating pair here last summer so it's nice to think this is their offspring but no way of being sure.
