Why do stakes matter in a story? There need to be consequences if your protagonist doesn't achieve their goal, so that readers have a reason to root for them. The consequences don't have to be life or death, but they should matter to the character! #Writing #WritingTip

👀I just found the most PERFECT comp for my querying MG horror/fantasy. It's too bad I didn't know about it until now.
It's a series! 👀

My book is still different enough, but it's exactly what I needed.

Finding middle grade 📚 online needs to be easier.

This had a 7-publisher auction, so MG is very much still alive or alive again. It's just a little shorter. 🧟‍♀️ Keep fighting for it! 📚⚔️📚. I just trimmed my horror fantasy to 54k, so I'm happy to see this.

Hey y’all. As an agent, I do not use AI at any point in my process with clients or querying authors, nor would I ever feed someone’s work into AI for any reason whatsoever. And if I learned of an editor doing this, I would not submit to that editor.

Depends on the work. I dont tend to do it, but I do enjoy named chapters and chose to do my YA fantasy with them, because it fit the style.

Interesting. There is only 1 agent I know of who requests/rejects in reverse. I think most work in order or by word count. Timing is also everything. I received a request in 0 seconds, but it was my first R&R and they were about to close.

A friend had a house-sitting job, and she got permission for me to stay while I was working as a stand-in for Ghostbusters. I love 🐈, but this cat was a major meowing stalker. I hid under the sheets as the cat opened the door. 🛏️
She also followed me into the shower! 🚿
