I still think I'd call Panzer Dragoon Saga Sega's single greatest achievement in the medium of RPGs because of the profound impact it had on me, but the last time I felt this burning desire to live in the world of a game was when I played Xenoblade 2 for the first time all the way back in 2017.

I finally beat Skies of Arcadia after years of procrastinating playing it, and man, was I missing out! Overworks took everything I loved about Phantasy Star 4 and built even further upon it to create one of the most thrilling RPGs I've ever played that relit a feeling of childlike wonder in me.

i didn't even realize the left row was entirely sonic until after i posted it LMAO

and trying to choose a favourite soundtrack out of dozens of sonic and mega man games felt like an impossible task so i went with twilight princess because its use of leitmotifs has always tickled my brain right and tracks like hyrule field and midna's lullaby consistently make me tear up 3/3

sonic r's reputation has absolutely improved over time, but most people still only praise its soundtrack and not the game itself. putting 06 would have felt disingenuous even though i love it, and saying 3d blast or labyrinth would have felt like a meme answer even if it'd be true 2/3

to explain a couple of placements i especially struggled with settling on

skies of arcadia is absolutely recency bias, but i still feel like it perfectly encapsulates everything i love about the dreamcast aesthetic and a lot of early 6th gen games as a whole 1/3
